There have been a string of attacks in recent years, not only this. It is deeply troubling, and may be indicitive of a growing global anti-Christian pattern. This includes the attack on an Orthodox monastery in Jackson several months ago, the Palestinian occupation of ROCOR convents and monasteries in Jericho, and the holing up of Palestinian militants in the Church of the Nativity (thanks be to God that the Israelis are decent and God-fearing enough people to have waited the Palestinians out and avoid any serious damage to the church).

I'm pretty sure that an Israeli soldier shot a Orthodox Monk in the head as he went up to ring the Church bells in the morning at the Church Of The Nativity.
