  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Beam me up Scottie!

In the old Star Trek programs if I remember right, they had the technology to change a person into energy that could be rapidly transported though space and them back into matter again.

But what I am wondering about is the technology that I first saw in the movie Terminator. You will notice I am talking about old movies, because I do not watch movies anymore, so I do not know what sort of stuff they have in them now a day.

In the Arnold Schwarznegger movie, the terminator could change his molecular structure anytime he wanted to. So I am wondering, does anyone think that Molecular Nanotechnology is really going to be the Next Industrial Revolution?

if people could make programmable nanobots i think it would be very revolutionary. there is only a limited amount we can do with the large tools we have now, precise as they may be. think about it- things like brain surgery with a needle and remote control.

as for the terminator, i don't think something like that could exist on its own. a mass of metal that can somehow process information while melted in a liquid puddle? i just can't think of any design for a computer chip that would allow for that, without remote control.

The first computer I used was the size of a room, now look at how small they are and they are talking about maybe being able to make a computer the size of a molecule.

The question is, will we ever be able to control molecules that we can get them to change their form like that. Even if it takes a machine the size of a room to do it.

Some people say we already can do it. A scientist can grow precious stones in his lab that are gem quality for jewerly. Are we that far off from being able to take some inexpensive chemicals and then get them to form themselves into Gold or something like that? Was that not the beginning of chemistry in the first place. Was that not the objective they had in mind from the start?

My two bits.

We can knock of an electron, for example, from an oxygen atom. One proton turns into a neutron. The neutron is being kicked out with another one and you have Nitrogen. So you can, even now, take bigger elements and make then into smaller ones.

To make the reverse, say like the sun making helium out of hydrogen takes a very hot environment to accomplish. But it is possible.

Would we be able to manipulate elements like in the movies? If we solve the riddle of cold fusion, why not? Let's be positive here.

Btw, the computer has not changed much. Still uses only O and 1. what has changed are the parts used to make the computer.

Actually, the city we are looking for will not be made out of precious stones, just adorned with them.

Rev. 21:19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,

Rev. 21:21b And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

Jasper and chalcedony are not classed as precious stones.

Oh, well, how about the rest of them?

Rev. 21:20
the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.
