Mods....Is this a debate forum?

Someone here said that Mariology is a debate forum.
I don't see this anywhere in the description of this section on the main Theology page.
It does say this about some other areas, though.

Can someone clear this up please? Thank you.

Inflammatory remarks about another member or their beliefs won't be tolerated.

Threads started for the sole purpose of making accusations or insinuations that a group of Christians commit idolatry, raise Mary to the level of a deity, or are advancing to such an end, are not in keeping with the purpose of this forum. Threads started for the sole purpose of accusing a group of Christians of disrespecting Mary are likewise not in keeping with the purpose of this forum. Threads not in keeping with the purpose of the forum will be closed or deleted at staff discretion.

There were enough threads regarding the Theotokos to warrant a dedicated subforum.

Nor is it out of sight, unless of course the object of the OP is to troll GT with invectives regarding the Theotokos and those who venerate her.

I wasn't aware that OBOB made policy decisions regarding the Theology fora. I can assure you that Theology staff* does within the confines of our authority.

* - Comprised of representatives from the major confessions at CF

What happened is that before Lent, peoples were whining about GT, then two obob members started to try to get a separate part of the forum, i've found half of it, will keep looking for the other confession. Certain peoples were also saying that anyone who would talk 'bad' about Mary was most likely posessed as well.

Seems to me that this rule is disregarded on a routine basis! Just look at the titles of some of the threads.

Either the rule should change or it should be enforced.

Well, since that type of behaviour is not allowed here (c.f. forum stickie), I would say that that was not why the forum was created.

It may very well be that some individuals wanted a forum created for that which you describe, that does not mean that that was why it was formed, and it is certainly not it's intended purpose as can be seen in the forum stickie.

Unfortunately, saying something highly disrespectful can be justified. Because it is justified, the comments are let slip.

Or at least that's the impression I get.

Saying this forum section was created to get the talk about Mary "out of sight"...wow, that is a sad comment.

I really think if anyone (Catholic or others) would like a forum to talk about Mary in a good, respectful way, will be better off just going to a Catholic forum somewhere else online.

Yeah, I agree Kristos. Many of the threads are pretty inflammatory just in their titles! :-(

I won't doubt you, I'm sure that there are some that hold that opinion. The point I was trying to make is that the Mariology forum was not made to foster that view, nor was it made to protect those that do. In fact such an attitude is expressly rejected in this forum.

[3] Rule violation: Protestants are Mary-haters.

Acceptable alternative: Protestant beliefs about Mary detract from her importance.

I believe someone said it, but I'll bet the reason you can't find it is that a mod deleted the comment.

I agree that many of the titles in this forum are contradictory to the stated purpose.

Honestly I don't know why people who don't believe Catholic doctrine, and who aren't interested in it at all....I don't know why they'd even come here except with a mean spirited intention.
It seems to me God would have such people spend their time more profitably, for their own sake.

If it was as Iollian recalls (and like you, I don't doubt it) , there is a good chance it was deleted as such a post would probably be seen as a 2.1 violation. If it were deleted, it lives somewhere in the bowels of the CF database, just not where the 'public' can find it .
