Modern Overheating Gaming Consoles

Any gamers here have problems with a console/system overheating? I ask because my PS3 Slim has had the problem for quite awhile now. Has anyone here attempted the solutions like those found on youtube? I thought I would check there, to see what I would be getting into, and looks like quite a task to clean and apply fresh thermal compound, but one I could do. To date, I've simply used a laptop usb fan, and it's kept me from the yellow light of death (YLOD), but I think it would be wise to seek a longer term solution. Any tips, suggestions?

I tend to hoover out as much dust as possible, that's the most common cause of overheating in things. Now my 360 doesn't sound like it's trying to take off.
