  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Modern day systemic racism, does it exist?

I suspect the "wage gap" between blacks and whites is similar in reasons as the wage gap between men and women, at least among the college educated. Blacks--men and women--are most likely to enter the same fields as white women.

Why is that? Jordan Peterson has some thoughts about why women do it, but I don't know why black men do it. Heck, I don't know why I did it, except that at the time I was graduated from high school, the social impetus was to enter a "socially relevant" field.

But as I say frequently, "There is always more than one thing happening." The relief from Jim Crow began about the same time America's global economic supremacy ended. Wave after wave of economic reversals began affecting Americans across the board just as black people finally gained the ability to move forward.

You don't seem to really understand what systemic racism is.

It seems you don't. If blacks are getting home loans then it's not systemic. The fact that some don't because they are a bad risk, doesn't mean it a systemic problem. Systemic racism would mean even the blacks that are not high risk and are making enough money and have good credit would not get a loan just cause they are black.

Oh good grief! America was not founded on racist values. Here we go again!

One hard point Peterson makes is that people are not equal in capability. Both the left and the right totally ignore this factor: Nothing can make all people's productivity equal because people are not equal in capability. This issue will become more acute as automation takes over jobs that require less capability, and nobody has a ready answer for that.

It means the problem is somewhere else in the society. It's not the bank's today fault if a certain neighborhood has declining home values, certainly not in the same ways banks could manipulate neighborhood home values by actions such as blockbusting. There's more than one thing happening.

If you can't be bothered to explain it adequately in a forum like this, don't expect anyone to be convinced in the voting booth. This is what Bill Mahar means by being a "snob"--and losing elections because of it.

Thank you for your inout. I suggest you read about American history. Blacks in the south were most often slaves and the government provided them with the laws they needed to perpetuate the system for a few hundred years. Google has a ton of resources you can try.

I've explained it too many times. Whoever doesn't know either doesn't care or isn't listening.

Not I hope to reduce it to semantic games but
personal distaste, maybe acted out, is not necessarily
racism- not remotely.
Seems in the US any negative comment or
just an observation is RACISM. Stereotyping is
Racism.
We all tend to stereotype, and its not all somehow wrong.

If I see a woman from Philippines in Hong Kong my
auto- thought is, "domestic helper".
Low status, doesnt speak Chinese, out on an errand for her e ployer.
99.99 percent i will be correct.

In Paris, I went to the Louis V store on the Champs E,
and there were all these " mainlanders". Women from
China, really loud and pushy, grabbing things for
buyers back home. It was embarrassing. Of course
the store owners know the kind, know what to expect.
Mainlanders have kind of taken over from the bad mannered American tourist.
I already knew what to expect, they dont behave well
in HK either.

Im not being "racist" toward Chinese! Or the Filipinas.

I hope Americans can get over this obsession they have.

Actually, you haven't. You just keep saying the same thing over and over.
So why don't you get it from a book or an academic journal? You don't seem to believe anything I say

I wonder what is a " racial value"
When you you are of the mind that you are superior because of your race OR you think other races are inferior.

I didn't say racial but RACIST. Google it if I am not being clear,

It probably isn't "perfect" but I at least know how it functions

it might not hurt if you backed off from having to be
" right ".
Not liking a bad smell isnt racist. The landlord who
had to clean the oil off the walls after my friends'
year of the wok would be quite justified being leery of
renting to Chinese again.
Call it racist if you must but that dors not mean it
is or that you are right.
You know?
Think about it.
None of us ate through learning.

I didn't say racial but RACIST. Google it if I am not being clear,

A value cannot be "when ". Racial / racist who cares.
I found no definition or indication that " racist values" is a real term.
If its a thing, provide a link, yah?

Not liking a smell or behaviour isnt about being
" superior".
