  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For the last hour or so, the modem on this computer has been making a grinding noise, as if it is trying to connect, when it's connected already at 45000 kbps.

I'm using Compuserve dialup with a Lucent Win modem on an almost year-and a half old HP Pavilion 7965 PC.

I'm running Compuserve, Windows Media Player, and Internet Explorer.

Does anyone know what can be causing this problem?

If you really wanna mess with it, when things like that go on, I restart. If that doesn't do it, take the modem out (with the computer off ;)), dust it off and everything, stick it back in, and see what happens.

Just a general list of things to do when weird problems happen for weird reasons :D

Yeah. Sounds really genius-like, doesn't it ;) I have no idea what would be causing it to beep and such
