  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If the decision takes place before the 2022 election, it will probably have a big effect, one way or the other.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned. there will be a huge feminist turnout against Republicans.

If Roe v. Wade is upheld but limited, there will be a significant but probably lesser turnout from evangelicals and conservatives who wanted more.

Let's remember that even a complete overturn of Roe v Wade merely turns the matter back over to the states, where it had been earlier. That would not necessarily mean that a state anti-abortion could not still be overturned at the SCOTUS level on other provisions.

For instance, if Roe v Wade is overturned, there would be some states criminalizing abortion and other states legalizing it. Some of the states intending to criminalize it have already drafted provisions to criminalize state residents even if they traveled to a "legal" state for the procedure. I suspect that kind of provision would not be acceptable even to a conservative SCOTUS, because it presents extremely broad unintended consequences.
