  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

missionary work in multiple places?

First, I was told if God has placed a call on your life for ministry, the desire won't go away until you're in whatever ministry God has called you to.

Second, I've spent tons of time in prayer and waiting on God for this, it's not just something I've jumped into. By tons of time, I mean YEARS.

Third my reasons for doing this are to love and serve God and others.

Basically I'm wondering if it's possible to do missions primarily in one place, while doing short term missions in other places simultaneously.

I know typically a missionary will only do missions in one place, to have the most impact for God.

However I love other cultures, and learning other languages, and I pick languages up very fast.

Also, it wouldn't matter where in the world I'd be serving. as long I was loving and serving God and others.

I've already been praying to God about this, asking for wisdom, discernment and direction with this.

I know it's unorthodox, but I've never done anything the way anybody else has, and this includes my walk with God and serving Him.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being "unorthodox".
Nothing that you are proposing violates God's commandments - you are doing no harm by traveling elsewhere to do ministry.

My suggstion is simple ... give it some thought, pray about it, and TRY it out. You may find that you open new doors when you meet new people and go to new places.

The main difficulty with what you are proposing is that it could tend to dilute your energies devoted to your current project, and you may become unfocused. You should think about that. But on the other hand ... if you travel then you may also find a new focus, or a different persepctive on God's world.

I don't think that God wants us to be in chains. He actually gives you quite an abundance of freedom to find a way to fit it. I do think that ultimately you will find a place to "settle down" where you are happy and making a good contribution. If you need time to explore and find this place - by all means do it!

Your prayers and perceptions are leading you in the right direction, I suspect, and your facility with languages is a special gift that you should use wherever you can. You have every reason to listen to your heart.

There are some missions where we move and in essence settle in one place. In fact, for the Great Re-Awakening, we are not only ministering in European countries like France or the Netherlands but settling there permanently with our families.

But before doing committed missions like this, it's often helpful to do others in a number of different places where you can visit, pitch in and then draw up your stakes to somewhere else. By all means, go where your heart takes you!

Basically I'm wondering if it's possible to do missions primarily in one place, while doing short term missions in other places simultaneously.

Well, I'm a missionary in Australia and I frequently go on overseas missions trips outside of Australia. I full-time volunteer with an organisation called "Youth With A Mission" (YWAM). In Australia, I'm mostly part of running courses designed to grow a persons relationship with God and equip them for missions. It's a 6 month course, with three months in Australia and three months abroad. I spend most of my time in Australia, where I'm based, but I also frequently leave to do missions in other parts of the world. For example last year I was in North Africa and Europe for a time, but most of my year was spent in Australia.

So my answer is, yes you can certainly be based in one location while still doing missions in other parts of the world. In fact that's exactly what I do full-time!

Well my friend, you have the perfect match for what this link is all about and exactly what danluc was talking about regarding YWAM and what he's involved in as a full-time volunteer missionary. Check it out: Get trained at YWAM Newcastle! on Vimeo

Blessings mate and praying for you! We need heaps of switched on Christians that share your heart to reveal Jesus and his love to the world like you.
