  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

perhaps the book you read was only suggesting things to do for Lent?

You are obligated to fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. You are obligated to abstain on all Fridays in Lent.

Fasting means 1 large meal and two small meals that do not equal a large meal.

I'm going to Mass at 5:30 tonight. :)

Personally i think it is one of the days that should be a day of obligation.
Yeah, it's a bit odd that - isn't lent supposed to start when you get your ashes.

I guess the reason is that it's not celebrating anything or anyone in the same way as other Holy Days are.

But then no one would show up!

Funny. But not quite true. There will always be, what my priest calls PACE Catholics. "P" = Palm Sunday, there to get palms--"something for nothing". "A" = Ash Wednesday, there to get ashes--also "something for nothing". "C" = Christmas, there because it's traditional. And "E" = Easter, there because it's also traditional.

Personally I think its more "CE", or just Christmas and Easter, or just completely lapsed altogether. 'Tis sad. Most of my family's Christmas and Easter "Catholics", or attend mass like twice a month, with no regard for going to confession for the missed mass, ergo, they get communion anyways! Ugh! Such disrespect to the Lord's Body and Blood!(Never mind the fact it is a sin to do receive the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin!:sigh:)
