  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could anyone recommend a good missal for the new Mass, with both Sunday and daily readings? I have the two-volume St. Joseph's daily Missal, but I was wondering if there's a better one (it's for a gift). One with devotions in it, too, would be nice.

I use the cheap $2.00 annual St. Joseph's (Sunday only) :) I am a new catholic (in RCIA), but I am not sure I'd want a big, fancy one. This one is cheap, I throw it in my back pocket and if it gets messed up... well... it was 2 bucks and it will be replaced in 1 year!

I'd be curious to see/hear of a nice one, though. Amazon has a ton. Browse if you will ;)

It's a bit pricey but it has everything I could ask for.
I especially like the "How to be a good Catholic" section. Tons of devotions. Up to date with all the new saints, includes the Luminous Mysteries for the Rosary. By far the most complete Missal available. Enjoy!

I use The Weekday Missal, published by Collins

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0005997259/qid=1102599624/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-4269079-9393436

and The Sunday Missal, also published by collins

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0005997917/qid=1102599745/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_1_2/202-4269079-9393436

both are an invaluable aid in being united to the Church through the daily Mass readings and prayer offerings, especially on the occassions of not being able to attend Mass.

God Bless.

The daily Roman Missal has all the readings for each Sunday Mass for all three years A, B, and C. So yes it will last as long as they don't change the readings in the liturgical years. The Daily Readings are also included. They do not change from year to year, so you are good to go there as well. It includes all of the Antiphons, Eucharistic prayers.

For instance, yesterday was the feast if the Immaculate Conception. The Roman Missal also has all the readings for the feast days and Holy Day as well. There is a special Preface just for this day, it's in there.

Basically every word you hear at Mass, besides the Homily and the prayers of the faithful, are in this book.

How do I use it? Well I follow along wth the different parts of the Mass. It has 6 ribbons so you can mark the different places inthe Mass. I also pray the suggested prayers before and after Mass. It is great for me, because I find that I am easily distracted during Mass and this helps me focus.

How about a subscription to Magnificat?? http://www.magnificat.net/It is an awesome gift! I love the reflections and all of the additional explanations and info about the saints...plus they smell good. (Okay so we're a really nerdy book family- but what do ya' expect we met working at a bookstore!)
