Miss. prom canceled after lesbian's date request - USATODAY.com
Politics gets in the way of education, the people in charge of education have to drop the problem, in this case, the Prom.
Why does the school ask about the persons date?
My daughter went to homecoming last month, I looked at others pictures,
there was twins pictured together, two or more girls together, I believe even 2 guys were together. I don't believe any of these kids to be gay, but I bet they might have ridden to the dance with the same sex person.
Is it so wrong for a girl to want to wear a tux? If you look at formal dresses, they tend to display the woman in one light, glamor and sexy.
Tuxedos do not highlight skin, and would be more conservative for a modest girl.
Couples tickets are usually cheaper than two single tickets, so buying them together is more econmoical.
So looking at these issues, why does the school need to know who is who's date? If they don't know officially, they can't be accused of endorsing or descriminating against homosexuals.
The complainers would have no basis for complaint. They still would, but the school could claim ignorance.
For the people supporting homosexuality, taking on a school is not the place for a battle. Schools all over the country are barely making it, taking a school to court over dropping the prom because of protest would burn more money that schools don't have. If they refused to admit this couple, I would see a reason to fight.
Of course, there may be a bullying suit to follow since the whole school will miss prom, because of this one couple.(not everyone will look at this fairly.)
I can see not allowing a male to dress in a formal dress, as it would disrupt the dance, but when the couple is being reasonable, they should be allowed.
Maybe schools should ask local businesses to support and organize the proms.Due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events, the Itawamba County School District has decided to not host a prom at Itawamba Agricultural High School this year," school board members said in a statement.
