We often see here that some people insist on stating as fact what they propose others believe inspite of having received explanations multiple times that make clear that the views being attributed are in fact not an accurate picture of the other person or groups belief.

My question is, once someone has clarified what they actually believe, is it in fact bearing false witness to continue to repeat what you now are fully aware of as incorrect?

Posted in Mariology as Mariology is the classic example of views where this persistently occurs and the discussion is likely therefore to head this way anyway.

Foolish sounds more likely than sinful.

I suspect you can come up with your own example.

Young man, if you were to tell me for example; that we all become God when we die (mormon) and you proof text some scripture in order to back this stance, and I understood that you took this completely incorrect, am I to back off because you explained yourself?

No the scriptures tell us to correct our brothers whom are in error.

Though I guess they also say to "shake the dust from your sandals" if they refuse to listen and that they'll be no better than Sodom and Gomorrah

You wont find any mormons in here, its christian only. Although I note you insinuated some might hold mormon views in a recent thread.

No the scriptures tell us to correct our brothers whom are in error.

Yet they do not tell us to put words in others mouths and then insist that the words are theirs. We are to correct their actual errors not invent ones to correct.

They also say not to judge.

I'd agree it would be foolish yet I'm not clear it can only be one or the another and I'm really more interested in whether it breaks the commandment to not bear false witness.
May be.
Misrepresenting someone is definitely
rude, foolish and unfruitful.
