  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1. That I claim to know a God doesn't exist.
2. That I believe in God deep down.
3. That I only post here to cause trouble.

This is all the same one...
because unitarian universalists also believe that all will be saved
fine, i'll call it SECULAR universalism.
"christian" universalism and secular universalism teach the exact same thing, because both of you believe no matter what you do, you're going to be saved.
Really, and Universalism isn't a fringe religion? Everyone is going to heaven? Then that would mean there is no Judgment Day.

1. That I worship Satan
(No, I disavow his existence entirely).

2. That I'm an emo/goth/hippie rebellious teenager.
(No, I'm a middle aged married man with a family a full time job in the tech industry).

3. That I practice magic for malicious purposes.
(No, I would never curse the uninsured. Just kidding; magic is less than 1% of my practice and is based on psychology, not supernatural powers)

As a seeker who has tried many a religious/spiritual path (although have settled on Buddhism for quite some time) people (Christians) think i must be dissatisfied and restless. Those people seem to think staying in the same place and not changing is a good thing (which for many it is). Of course I always viewed exploration and sampling of many spiritual paths as a good thing.

What are the top three misconceptions about your personal faith (or lack thereof)?

I suppose it would be these:

1) That to be a Christian, I **HAVE** to believe in an inerrant Bible, or the game is over (due to a supposed "slippery-slope" argument that, I am told, I will **absolutely** come face to face with). [I get this from other Christians, mainly]

2) That my "faith" must be blind ... [I get this from atheists, mainly]

3) That all my study in philosophy, history, theology, and a bit of scientific theory--is all just "booking learning," and none of which reflects the power or direction of the Holy Spirit. [I get this from other Christians, mainly]

1. Christians don't need to go to church.
2. A Christian does not need to be baptized.
3.. You can be a Christian and not read your Bible nearly daily.

I had to do thee more.

1. A Christian can have sex outside of marriage.
2. Christians don't need to get married.
3. Sin is no big deal.

i hopre you're not implying that i am this Ronald character...

if you want, you can have the mods do an IP check, and they'll find that we are on two different internet providers... we just happen to both belive the same thing about "christian" universalism.

"One" = "misconception," in response to the question posed in the OP. He asked for three misconceptions, so I just wanted to clarify that I was giving three instances of the same one. :) No worries, friend.

1. That you have to be stupid, or 'hate' science.
2. That you have to hate gays/lesbians/trans/anyone that doesn't fall under christianity rules.
3. That you can't have fun, and it's completely boring.

Dunno if this is common amongst christians, but it's what I get a lot.

Are we missing the question?

What are the top three misconceptions about your personal faith (or lack thereof)?
Not sure.
I think he means misconceptions from outsiders looking in. Kinda hard to tell.

Nevermind, he posted on it himself earlier in the thread. With the same format everyone else is using.
