Now that I have your attention...

No really....tell me what you think about this.
According to Michael Rood, the fact that mirrors have been put on the moon and scientists were able to aim lasers at them, enabling them to calculate the moon's orbits with incredible precision, we can now know for a fact that Yeshua's birth date was September 29th...during Sukkot, as most Hebrew Roots people have always claimed.
According to him, they can calculate the dates of all previous Biblical Feasts.

How can the moon tell us this? I've heard things along these lines before, but I don't know the underlying mechanisms.

RADAR (RAdio Detection And Ranging) has been around for a long time. Today it can be done with lasers and far more accurately.

You didn't answer my question though.

Yes... I said lasers.

2-foot wide panel studded with 100 mirrors pointing at Earth: the "lunar laser ranging retroreflector array."
Yes and more have been put there since then.

Ranging works by a transmitter sending out a pulse of energy (signal) in the form of laser light and then carefully timing the return of the reflected signal. Since we know the speed of light very accurately this timing tells us the distance.

Not really.

Back in biblical times, the months started with a physical sighting of the new moon to start off every month. If it was overcast, that might delay the start of the month by a day or 2.

And besides that, the biblical first month of the year, Nisan, was also called Abib. That refers to the greening of the barley crop. So it had to be determined toward the end of Adar if the barley crop was progressed enough for the next month to be Nisan, or was it going to be Adar 2. There is no way being able to track the moon could tell you growing conditions on the ground 2000 years ago in Jerusalem.

I did some reading on the mirrors on the moon last evening at Wiki, and it was fascinating to learn a little of the intricacies of the moon's orbit around Earth, and how they swing each other around as a bi-planetary system. Amazing stuff.

But I don't see how this affects our knowledge of past Biblical dates. We have known about the top-line data of the moon's orbiting for millennia. Gen 1.14-ff even tells us the "lights" in the heavens, including Sun and Moon, were given so we can know times and seasons. Now we can tell the present distance between moon and earth to a millimeter, but I don't see that having any bearing on, say, the date Jesus was born.

... what is the importance of knowing the "exact date" anyway? It would not impact my faith in any way shape or form, would if for anyone? Oh, and I'm betting those that hang so strongly on "tradition" (Dec 25th) will find ways to nullify the date argument anyway.

Indeed. If the exact date was all that important, it would have been recorded.

Even the tax records of the census that Rome took at His birth were destroyed when Pompeii got buried in 79 ad when Vesuvius erupted.

I suspect God does not want us to know the day.

I agree - you're probably right. But I think we can know within a couple of days when he was born. The only importance to me is that it's just more verification that December 25th is not Yeshua's birthday.
