  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"Nice" is actually a pretty low bar, or it used to be, and often just means people will do the socially respectable thing but get back at you passive-aggressively later.
There is an inside joke with people who moved here from other states that goes "Minnesota nice is Minnesota ice." There is a culture of being "nice" to people while hiding their disdain. Many of the more conservative churches believe that the love of Christ only extends to those who deserve it and that if you are poor, it's due to your own moral failing. Many don't believe in the propetual cycle of poverty and chalk it up to people not working hard enough.

I remember being on the middle school basketball team as a six-footer, getting massive rebounds. These old guys loved me when we got the victory but their daughters had to keep our friendship a secret or risk being disowned. One girl used to tell me what her dad and his friends and family used to say while watching basketball and it was thoroughly offensive but when they see me in school it was nothing but high fives and smiles. It was a good lesson to learn young.

I’m from Nebraska, which isn’t the upper Midwest, but definitely pro trump and Republican.

My hometown was majority ELCA Lutheran of German background. Overall, the village council was moderate to conservative. It was a very small town, after all.

Sometimes it isn't even about a cycle of poverty per se. In alot of places, housing and rent isn't affordable.

Some were genuinely loving, certainly. The pastor we had years ago was exceptional, he went the extra mile and was a real spiritual father to me. So the experience wasn't all bad: Lutheran worship can be beautiful in its own right. I had some good experiences there too, some of a spiritual nature.

However, after COVID I returned and things were not OK. I did alot of soul searching and just decided it was time to move on. It was not an easy decision.

Like Abraham, I seem to wander alot.

Oh, I see.

Take care.

Edit: Nebraska is the Midwest. It’s not the UPPER Midwest. My mistake.

GOP U.S. Senate Candidate Royce White Owes More Than $100K Child Support

When NBC News reported last month on Minnesota Senate hopeful Royce White’s history of ignoring child support obligations, he shot back, “All you liberals really just want to shame people with kids, because you’re anti-human as [all get-out]. That’s it. I love my children. And I’m current on my child support.”

According to financial statements provided by the mother of one of White’s children, however, White owes her more than $100,000 in child support payments for a daughter with whom he is barely involved.

The mother of White’s daughter shared images from Minnesota’s online child support portal showing White owes her $100,086.82, having made just one payment this year—$523.91, earlier this month.

White denied the woman’s claims, telling The Daily Beast, “I’m current on child support payments” in her case, as well as in a case with a second woman in which White was found in contempt in April.

I know I know, he's not running for pastor, just US Senator.

But it does speak to the hypocrisy that exists in the evangelical right. Just like they will excuse Trump's payments for sex to a porn actress or his alleged sexual assaults, not to mention the lies. One would think the Christian Right would distance themselves from such a man but it only strengthens their resolve.

LINK

In a post on Twitter from 2022 unearthed by Heartland Signal, White wrote that "the bad guys won in WW II" and then elaborated to say that "there were no 'good guys' in that war."

He then further said that "if you look closely, you see the link between liberalism and communism in the allied forces"

Trump vows to ‘remove the Jew haters’ if reelected during event commemorating October 7 attacks

"We’re going to remove the Jew haters who do nothing to help our country, they only want to destroy our country,” he said during the event at his golf course in Doral, Florida.

"I will tell you that [anti-Jewish hatred is] not in the Republican Party,” the former president added.

The former president said at an event last month that he had not been “treated properly by voters who happen to be Jewish” during the 2020 election and said Jewish voters would hold some responsibility if he is defeated this year, while touting his record on Israel.
