Hi:wave:,

While the following link is in reference to the Historic Lutheran Vestments, not all of our clergy wear all of these. It contains a brief explanation of the significance of each garment, and the devotional prayers that accompany vesting.

These are also the Historic vestments of the RCC, but will most often be seen during the celebrations of the Historic Latin Mass. Like Lutherans, most Catholic Clergy now wear an Alb, stole, and Chausable.

Thank you so much! I really had no clue, so this helps point me in the right direction to more thoroughly answer my question. It would seem that the point of the vestments is more symbolic than anything. I do not wish to go into debate concerning if this should/should not be done. At least not at this time. Thanks so much for an objective answer! :)

While vestments were prescribed in the OT, we Lutherans view them as things of indifference. They do not contradict with Scripture, so their use is purely symbolic.

In the RC and EO, their use is mandated, but varies with the liturgy, rite, culture, and geographic location.

.

Likewise, the vestments worn by the Priests of the Temple in Jerusalem were symbolic as well. Christian vestments are a continuation of this tradition I believe.:)
