  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello everyone..I am a new member and I would really appreciate if some kind-hearted,knowledgeable sewing enthusiast would give me information about where I can purchase a lightweight, low priced (under $50.00) mini sewing machine..I have been on an internet wild-goose chase for the past month trying to find a website that sells a decent looking, reasonably priced mender...Many of the lightweight,cheap-priced mini-machines that I looked at did not have good consumer reviews. The manufaturer and seller gave the weak machines the two thumbs up sign so I don't know who to trust..If anyone has any personal experience with these little mini menders I would appreciate if you would bring some added insight to the situation...I am not trying to use it to sew a wedding dress or anything like that I just want to use it to give a professional look to some nice window curtains that I ordered through the mail.I haven't received the curtains yet but I want to have the machine ready when they arrive so that I can hang them up before the year 2010...I sent for five pairs of curtains and they each need adjustments or alterations..The "Napa Valley" rod pocket, panel curtains that are to go on the window in my bedroom are "63" inches long and my window is "43" inches long. The window is "109" wide and the curtains measure "60" inches per pair..I would need three pair on the long window if I want them to hang right..I have three other windows in my room that I have ordered curtains for also..They need alterations in lenghth also.As I said before I don't want a big machine because I'm not intending to sew a shirt or dress I really just want something small, that works well,is colorful, pretty to look at and under $50.00...I don't think that I am asking for to much?...Do You?

I bought one from BRYLANE . It was like $29.99 - was advertised on TV earlier - I bought for the express purpose you want it for. We MADE my daughter like 5 wide panels for her living room - and got many compliments. The catalog I ordered it from was from Brylane called Brylane Kitchen. You might go online & type in Brylane & see what you get . I will try tomarrow at work to find one of the catalogs & post back at you their contact info if you don't find it online. Now, how did I like it? I think my problem was the material we were trying to sew on a cheap machine. I may not have ever adjusted the tension correctly either. The thread that came with it was so cheap. We did get the curtains made , but I told my daughter to take it home because I would never use it again. She loved it & has sewn all kinds of small projects with it. It has one stitch only also. It will get the job done, but I would not buy it for a lot of sewing. It would be excellent to use for quick mend jobs though & like you want to hem with it , it should be just fine. Good luck!
