  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone remember these kinds of retail centers that were big in the 70's and 80's?

Nowadays, most of them seem to have been rebuilt into strip centers. But they used to have more of a tiny mall feel to them.

For example, there was some kind of indoor common area which had access to all the stores, or at least some of the stores. There might have been a large anchor, like a grocery store, which had it's own entry, but it also opened up into the common area.

I miss these places.

Another thing I miss about these buildings was the unusual designs. It's like there was a Frank Lloyd Wright concept that was more prevalent in the designs of the mid-century. Like bringing the outdoors indoors. There were more big windows. More fountains and gardens.

That whole Frank Lloyd Wright design that I miss is not just in retail centers, but in business and professional centers, restaurants, etc.

I remember a little doctor's office that we used to go to. There was an aquarium built into the wall, and you could see it on both sides of that wall. One side was a waiting area, the other was a hallway.

Even small office buildings with only one or two offices. There would be a small lobby area.

These buildings seemed like they were built to last! They were built out of brick and stone. And then they just get torn down.

I feel the same way when I hear about an original Frank Lloyd Wright home being torn down.

Why?
