  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The church at large should do a better job of educating the flock in basic
theology and study of the scriptures, etc, etc. None of this however will lead to a church
that can engage the culture around it in and of itself if we also don't encourage a sound
education in other areas as well.

Take for instance the debates that have been going on over the issue of creationism versus
materialistic abiogenises from the views espoused by atheists who embrace neo darwinism.
Too many christians assume that quoting the scriptures alone is sufficient argumentation in
matters of science when it is not. Many young earth creationists lose these debates handily because
they bring forth not much in terms of credible scientific evidence to back up their views. They
do however establish themselves as being believers in a literal interpretation of a six day creation
and being christians, and that's pretty much it. They know their doctrinal position and how to
quote 'their key scriptures' in defense of their position, but many of them have very little education
in actual science. Their knowledge is useful for those debates held within theological circles
where old earth and gap creationists come to do battle, while the world around could care less
about these christian squabbles.

I advocate the study of scripture and the sound basic doctrines of orthodox christianity held
in common through much of the church. In all of this we should also encourage education in
the arts and the sciences to ensure each generation of believers will be ready to contend for
the faith as God calls upon them to do. That will be much better than the fluff and puff of
what I call ' feel good christianity' these days.
