Here’s one for you…

I contend that marketing and advertising are attempted mind control. They study the way people think and behave and try to influence their minds to make them desire a product, lifestyle, or service based on what buttons they pushed.

Example:

As a man I find it laughable that products directed at my “demographic” must have (seems to me anyway) a bouncing bust blonde to make me want to drink their beer. What about the taste man…

Taste? What's taste? And what does it have to do with beer (unless you like microbrews:D )?

I'm with you. Advertisers play on our fears and desires--not just consciously, but with subliminal messages. Of course, the subtext of those beer ads is, "You want to score with hot ladies? Then drink our beer!" Silly, isn't it?:D But, sadly, it works.:sigh:

My inner activist wants to organize a boycott of all products that use sex in their advertising. Advertisers: Tell me your name, tell me why your product is best, tell me the price and availability--but for goodness' sake (literally!) don't try to fool me into thinking I can get laid by using your stuff! I know better, and I won't buy your stuff.

I agree,

I used to work very briefly as a sales rep for a very well thought out and very well planned scam.
You would not be pitching to strangers but to friends and family, and their friends and family. For over priced goods (for the sake of privacy I will not disclose the product nor the company)
Anyways you would get them to buy your extremely overpriced product and then get referrals by them to other people. So you are guaranteed sales.

it was such a well thought out scam.

I personally am tired of seeing these women objectified and allowing themselves to be pawns in "sex sells" advertising that is so popular these days...

I mean really...as if anti-freeze and boobs have anything in common!

Don't forget that the women consent to being objectified they are not the victims. These women are active participants in the advertising. They want to be noticed by men. They enjoy it. Women need to stand up for themselves and say "No, I'm not going to dance around in my bikini so you can get some moron's attention." When the women start saying No then it'll stop.

I wonder. The economy is bad enough that some young women may well think there's no other option than to be "used" this way.

I have read some things about strippers and prostitutes. Many of them hate it--but see no other way to be secure financially. After all, such work pays much better than Mickey D's or Wal-Mart and is much more secure. All their suggestiveness is only an act.

It won't stop until we men stop using such services or buying products so advertised.

I don't think this says anything about the instability of the economy. It does reveal the fact, however, that pornography is one of the largest grossing "businesses" in the United States...

I ignore the whole "objectified women" thing. If they're stupid enough to prance about in tiny little clothing for some clod's amusement, so be it. If they think that's the only stable income they can earn, then they should be doing it anyway.

Now the ads I don't get are the ones with talking babies... Those things freak me out. There's just something... Not right about a little 18-month-old kid speaking in a 40-year-old's voice.

now youre getting it!
What on earth makes you think this psychological research isnt available to every one.?
The political parties ,the Govt, and just about any and everybody else resort to certain mind control techniques when trying to influence people.
We do it so much to each other, that it all adds up to a scam as big as the great deception.........???
The hooks are the same old stuff wrapped in a different package....sex,fear of rejection,greed,envy-covetousness,even hate and loathing get used along with the rest of the gammut of ploys to get people to do what is required them to fullfill the ADVERTISERS wishes.
It must be said that they lay on plenty of beefcake for the ladies as well as scantily clad females..
Some of the other psychological warfare ad campains are even more underhanded than the sex ones..
