• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ugh. Which ones are you experiencing?

Painful around stomach and esophogus (which I should be careful of anyway due to my GERDS/Reflux), painful bloating, constipation, pain around and behind my eyes...usually my right.

Most began close to around the time when I reached the new dose the doc gave. But didn't come together until Tues/Wed night.

I also recieved my CBC results. Suspected Lymphpcytosis. When I looked the word up on the net the results could mean my system is fighting a virus or something...else. And...surprise...it also noted certain medications can cause also be the result of this such as anti-siezure drugs.

Awe, well my prayers and love go out to you. It's always difficult to balance meds all the time.

I had a biopsy on a "nodule" in my thyroid today, I'll find out next Wednesday the results. They also did some other tests, as it seems that one of the meds I am taking is causing Cushings Syndrome... so we'll have to figure out which one and phase it out.

Thanks. The doctor is trying his best. I have no idea howlong it'll take. But, as I view it, it's better than not being treated at all.

They have several medical sites on the net which offer (for informational purposes only) which may at least help some. Maybe give an idea what systems may be affected by looking at your medications. Not all doctors know of the side-effects/warnings/drug interactions of the medications they prescribe.

A site I usually check is rxlist.com which offers info on the:

compound
normal reactions
adverse side-effects
warnings
overdose
interactions with

and in the aforementioned reactions/side-effects the list what in your system may be affected. Or, what happens if there's a build up in the system over time.

I pray they find out what's causing it so they can treat it. I know waiting for tests results is waiting on pins and needles.

My prayers and love go out to you as well.

I found the best person to ask about side effects and drug interactions was my pharmasist. Before computers . Now I can look online. Still some of that stuff is pretty complicated. One of the pain pills I took you couldnt drink tomato juice with it. I would have never guessed that one! I was on a health kick and had a V8 with me. Man you just really have to know stuff. My brother is on an anti anxiety pill and he cant have citrus specifically grapefruit, and he cant take meds for heart burn.

It's crazy I was scared this last winter bacause I take Topamax and I cant even have alcohol while on this stuff. I called my doctor's office to see what I could take for a cold because I felt miserable and they never called me back. How rude. So I ended up just taking Tylenol and suffering. I didnt want to chance it.

Hugs and prayers. I hope every thing has gone well

I read somewhere that taking citrus drinks/fruits with some meds is a big no-no. Some enhance the drugs effects while others suppress them. Grapefruite's among the worst.

I tried calling the neurologist's office recently. His nurse basically brushed me off. Didn't ask me what king of side-effects I had experianced, how long I had been on the previous prescription for before the doctor tried to change it, or 'hold. I'll ask the doctor if you should be rescheduled". Guess I'll try and call again and hope I get another nurse.

Besides, I was sent sent one less box of Maxalt than usual. I can understand the docter expecting the meds to work. But, he can't expect me to wait 5-6 months if the drug plan's not working. Been on that awhile anyway.

N2D you take Topamax, do you have problems with leg cramps? I'm hoping this is a side effect that will wear off. (I have other side effects too, but I am hoping they will pass too- )

And I used to drink cranberry grape juice, do you think I still can? Havent had it for awhile, lol.

Hmmm...well...remember, I have other conditions which give me leg cramps anyway. But I haven't had any over the usual (for me anyway).

Alot of the extra side effects have. I have noticed a strange discoleration under my nails growing since I took the first increase of the Top...and they haven't left within the past few weeks. So, I'll have to ask about that next time I see see the doc too

And I used to drink cranberry grape juice, do you think I still can? Havent had it for awhile, lol.

Probably. (Hee.) I think the gist is: just don't drink it with the medicine. Though...maybe ask the pharmicist or check online to be sure.

Didnt see that one in the side effects, course didnt see the leg cramps either, lol. They just said worry about eye pain.

It seems the only dietary worry was not enough carbohydrates. Guess they dont want you on a diet, lol. So I can have my cranberry grape juice . They encourage plenty of fluids. Especially water. Something about kidney stones.

Next week I will be up to my maximum dose. Hopefully the side effects will begin to deminish then. Keeping fingers crossed .

How many weeks have they been uping your dose? I was on the six week plan. Kinda drained me. The heat didnt help.

Been walking my dog at night. Way to hot in the day time, makes me sick.

Well hope you all are doing well. hugs all around

Check here and here for known side-effects of the drug. The second especially is rather informative in regards to migraines.

Also, not sure where they came up with the idea there's a loss of weight with this. I've gained 30 lbs. with just fluid between the Depakote and the Topo.

How many weeks have they been uping your dose? I was on the six week plan. Kinda drained me. The heat didnt help.

The neuro has been trying to find the right dosage of preventative medicine for me for a year and a half actually. He first began with a time release 500 mg time-release Depakote (which gave me side-effects so...I had to use a pill splitter). He then dropped to 250 mg. regular twice a day and went slowly until I could tolerate 500 mg.

However, he then added the Topo when I started began having hand tremors and shakiness instead of rising the other. (He stated I shouldn't be showing thouse type of symptoms on 1,000 mg a day for Depo. But, like all of my doctors, he's gonna learn if he hasn't already how sensative to medication I am.)

Been walking my dog at night. Way to hot in the day time, makes me sick.

Hopefully the heatwave will soon diminish where you are. It's very oppressive many places around the nation.

Well hope you all are doing well. hugs all around

By the way, Undeniably, love your Panda avatar.

Thanks Night! I am trying to find my moment of Zen.

How are you feeling?

Being the utterly ungraceful beast that I am, I tripped over myself and broke three bones in my foot so I am in a cast and on crutches for 6 weeks. At least they gave me a black cast, it blends in with the rest of my clothing and my sons painted little glow in the dark stars on it last night, so it's like the night sky. They really want to cheer me up, and they did a good job. I guess it's a good time to finish the quilt I've been working on.

My headaches have been pretty bad lately, and once this thing with my thyroid is cleared I'll go see the neurologist again and see what he thinks. I'm averaging one really bad a week, but they haunt me all week and threaten me constantly. It's hard to feel like you are held captive by your migraines. The doctor wants to increase my Depakote, but can't increase my Torprol because it's already bringing my blood pressure to an average of 95/60. Any lower than that and they'll start to worry. The bad thing is that the beta blocker was the one medication that was really helping a ton. I'll get it all worked out.

Hugs love and prayers for you all!

Ok...but drained...I hadda take a Maxalt not long ago. One of those darn things slipped in.

Ouch! Three bones? Never heard of a black cast before. They have those? Must look kinda cute with the glow-in-the-darks painted on. Here's to wishing you a blessed recovery.

I pray you recieve some relief. Migraines are very-very difficult for any person who has them to handle regardless what type of Migraine they are.

Sounds like the Domino effect with Medicines. This one will effect that one. Or that one will interact with this one. Ect.

Oh....here's one..I forgot to comment on. When we had the absurd 83,000 mold counts the weather forcaster on one of the local stations introduced that part of the newscast with: "If you feel as if your entire head is gonna blow right off, here's the reason why..."

Ugh...methinks I'm going to have to cut my dose of Topomax in half again. then get off it completely. Just a few days ago my stomache started in again just like it did before on this lower dose. Not to mention some of the eye pain returned in my right eye..which is worrisome in itself. Thankfully I just got notice it's that time of year for my eye appointment.

Twice I called up my doctor's office and while they're sending a new long-term prescription of Maxalt which was messed up the first time, the nurse still didn't neglected to ask what the symptoms were regarding the Topomax. I have a feeling I'm going to have to see him before October. Otherwise...the Depakote prolly won't be enough. 'Specially if Autumn is as fussy in changing as last year. Those weather changes are especially horrible.

P.S.

Good luck with those meds Night2Day. Although I know luck has nothing to do with it. I pray you will start feeling better real soon.

Thanks. Been somewhat iffy with some of the unstable weather. Especially with the lowered dose. (Still haven't been able to contact the doctor. Is it just us Medicare patients or what? ) But what to do? Feel sick one way or feel sick or another. Just hope the new prescriptioption for the Maxalt gets here. Not my fault the doctor wrote it wrong and gave me 9 less tablets than I was supposed to get. (Was supposed to get 36. recieved 27. The doctor confirmed it when we last saw him.)

And with the Ragweed season coming up (which causes major problems...enough to even go into hives) not to menton the changing of seasons...the nursing staff where the office is located is gonna have to do better than they have been.

I hope and pray nothings seriously wrong with your eyes Night, topamax didn't do very well for me, made me sick.

I'll prolly see the eye doctor in September. As for in and around my eyes, they haven't been aching so much since I dropped down the dosage, although there's a pop-up on occasion.

Although each time I dropped down the dosage I'm fine for a little while....only t experiance the symptoms again. Causing me to drop down once agian. Soon I'll have weened myself off. Go figure.

And you're so right, the weather surely does matter when it comes to migraines and it affects my body pain too.

I think it does many people.

Yeh, medicare and Bush, what a combination . (We'll have to see how this drug prescription program works -for me in January- keeping finger and toes crossed). As of right now neither medicare or medicaid cover my meds. I have to get samples. So its an up and down thing.

You know this heat is playing havoc on my system, along with the humidity .
