• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was just thinking on how every day is a new day for us. The past is the past, and Jesus told us to take up our cross daily and follow him. So for us, every day we rise in the morning it is a brand new fresh day. The old has passed away and all things are made new.

Which then reminded me of that poem (although I cant remember it, perhaps you can?) Something like this:

What will you do with the day that you have?
Will you make someone happy or make someone sad?
Will you lift someone up or tear someone down.

I pray Gods blessings on all of us,
pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing.

Have a great Monday!

By the way, is there anyone out there who has found the perfect pillow? I need a new pillow, and all that I have tried are not helpful. Any advise would be great.

Yo! :)

Sorry for the absence. Since the jetstream remains stuck in its unnatural pattern the air's instability where I'm at is something that can be counted on. (Tttttttthbts!) Although it's supposedly making it's move later today or Tuesday...then turn nicer. I really feel for those in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Arkanas, and Eastern Missouri from over the past week or so. Migraine is bad enough to have to deal with the possibilities of tornados and bad flooding.

Heartland USA. Gotta love it.

Neurologist is still not going to like me taking the aborts all those days in a row. I dodged the full-blown migraines. But, anyone who's been on Maxalt or a related abortive knows just how well a person can function...if at all.

One thing I've learned. The last main trigger the daily medicine has major trouble with: Not polllens, it's the atmospheric changes. One day the mold (my worst enemy) was high at 25,000 according to the allergy index and I hardly noticed at all that day. Late afternoon comes, right when the scattered storms begin firing up...and a migraine tries to break through. Checking online regarding previous days it was actually just about like that every day for over a week.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Like the poem, makes a person think! :)
Took me a whole week to get around to seeing it, but at least I'm writing on a Monday!hehe

Perhaps there really isnt a good pillow, since in all cases we have to lay our heads on them. That is a real problem for me. Putting any kind of pressure on my head. For me it hurts to sit at a chair and lean back, it hurts to lie back on a couch to watch tv, it hurts to lay down in bed. Do you suppose it has to do with our blood vessels?

Maybe find one of those pillows for your back? Sometimes those help. Whenever I have a migraine I usuaully up the pillows against that and then just burrow my face on in. (Unconventional. But ya try to get comfortable whatever way you can.) They had been known as "Bed Buddies".

I know Sears and JcPenny were selling them at one time.

Wow, didnt know they had a pillow for the back. I'm going out by the mall this weekend, I'll take a looksee.

(When I stayed in the hospital for my headaches, the doctor would correct me all the time for laying on my stomach. It was a real hard habit to break. I catch myself there from time to time. He said, that causes headaches. What do you guys think?)

Also had to learn not to clench my teeth too. Boy, I was horrible ^_^

Hmm...was that the same doctor that gave you too much pain meds for the Migraines...then gave you meds for the rebound headaches? ;)

Anyway...I found some pictures from Amazon.com.

Bedlounger -- This one isn't what I meant. And it's way more expensive. But, it's one idea. :p

Bedrest -- This is something like I have...without the overgrown decal. I bought mine within the 90s at JcPenny for around $30-40. It's blue cordoroy and has held up pretty well. Be careful of some of the ones they sell at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. They don't hold up pretty well.

Night2day--Ive seen some of those before. I actually thought about a bed rest. But I finally got a desk. I used to have to do my studies in bed. Now I can sit at my desk.

I have to have silence to study. Noise distracts me, that is why I read in my room. Privacy.

I just cant seem to find a pillow I really like. I went through touching all the pillows. Even those memory foam ones dont feel soft. I used to have one from my chiropractor, had two sides- one for back sleeping and one for side sleeping. Neither was very comfortable. (The back sleeping side always gave me a headache).

This guy at a shop I went to gave me a phone number and address for a accupunterist (sorry if I spelled it wrong). Has anyone else tried accupunture? I know everyone offers their theories and remedies for us, I had one guy tell me water would make my migraines go away. someone else told me it was homopathic remedies, magnets, electric shock, nerve severing, all kinds of stuff. Isnt it funny how people who havent ever had a migraine suddenly have all the answers. (I think we located another chip on my shoulder, lol).

To each their own. I have to be concerned with more than migraines so...the bed's fine with me... :D

Well, if your hearing gets too sensatve, maybe consider special noise reduction headphones which are padded all the way around the ridge of the head. An example can be found here. The one I have cost about $20 and was a child's size.

Everyone's migraine is differnt. So, it's only natural the position that may help will also be differnt. I hope you fine one that helps soon. Maybe go back to the the sleeping on the stomache? There are body length pillows which may or may not help. I have no idea. It's hard enough to find a good position to feel comfortable when in a migraine as is anyway....

Folklore. Yep. Everyone and their dog seems to have the perfect answer for something they have no clue about. How many want to guess a majority are convinced those people still think a migraine is still just a headache?

Hello Milla!

I see you just posted and wanted to say "Hi"!

Once a month migraines. Do you take anything for them?

I have medication but it zombifies me so usually I try to avoid taking it unless I'm about to go to sleep for eight hours anyway (and even then I don't like it...I think I hate mind-altering substances more than I hate pain. I wish my parents hadn't raised me to be such a stupid stoic :D). If I go lay down for a while in a silent dark room when I start getting an aura generally the migraine is lessened if not averted completely.

Night2Day--AMEN! (Commenting on the migraines being just headaches, lol).

You are right, when other health issues are around--what works for one may not another.

I actually have head gear for keeping out noise. I think I got them at walmart in sporting goods. Those didnt work to good for me. I think I need the kind they use at the gun ranges. I used to use those yellow ear plugs at work in the sewing factory. Didnt mind them too much.

Night2Day, have you ever had trigger point injections for you migraines, or muscle spasms? I have been taking them for --I think-- four or five years now. The past couple of months all the places I get the shots, I can feel them. The muscles hurt there. They were a dream come true when I first started getting them. Once the initial pain wore off, I could rest comfortably in bed for the first time. Actually sleep through the night. They are not working as good any more.

On the plus side, I did get a thing in the mail saying I was approved for that government medicine program. It says I should be able to get my pills, and at the most pay only five dollars a script. Wow, that would be so nice. I was having to rely on the kindness of my doctor to give me samples. They dont always have them so I would have to keep lowering my doses. I think it said I could get my meds in December. I hope soon, I just stopped by my doctors today to get some samples of Zomig, and they didnt have any.

I seen this thing on television about free meds. It was a number you call, I forgot to write it down. Have any of you heard of it? It may be some kind of hoax.

My mother also purchased a pair at Wal-Mart. The problem with those is the top of the crown is hard. For those of those with migraines that is the portion which should be the least irritating or hurtful. For me, when a migraine is in progress or is being subdued by medication it's heated and there's swelling. Who want's something remotely hard rubbing against that?

Ear plugs...eh...for some during a migraine the sinuses and congestion start up. Thus, the ears all feel stuffy. Would depend on the person.

The ones I linked too are simular to what I have. I got them over the net at a Yahoo earphone store. They had noise protection and noise reduction headphones/earmuffs for both shop work and out shooting ranges. Can't quite recall the address right now though. Would probably have to do a little searching through Y! shopping.

Night2Day, have you ever had trigger point injections for you migraines, or muscle spasms?

Hmmm...no. I haven't. Thus far the neurologist has me on two differnt types of anti-seizure drugs as well as an abortive migraine drug for migraines that broke through. (Like the one that almost fully broke through today when I woke up. ) He's been trying to adjust the medication for well over a year. I feel for him too. He is trying to help. Only there's little way for him to control an unstable atmosphere..which is when I'm at my worst.

More than likely it's due to the issue my migraines are triggered by allergies, weather/atmosphereic changes, as well as various chemicals: Cleaning supplies, paints, strong scents, ect. So...it's not an issue of mere muscle spasms...although they can't be completely ruled out. I do have TMJ. (Where the jaw keeps slipping in and out of socket. In my case however...it's verified by 5 doctors it's due to the Fibromyalgia. A type of tendonitis. I'm not clenching or gnawing my teeth at night.) But that type of pain is differnt as well. And it's possible the two can overlap like many of my conditons do. What else is new?

On the plus side, I did get a thing in the mail saying I was approved for that government medicine program. It says I should be able to get my pills, and at the most pay only five dollars a script. Wow, that would be so nice. I was having to rely on the kindness of my doctor to give me samples. They dont always have them so I would have to keep lowering my doses. I'm afraid I haven't. Some of the medicine commercials give numbers out for more info on their drug. But...you already know how I hate med commercials...don't you? (It's earlier in the thread...) Don't get me started on the little "cutsie" migraine monster for Imitrax... :p

There is a place online for info regarding various medications for those who are in need. The website has more information.

I got that TMJ too. Mines not bad though, I think I had aggrivated my jaws by always clenching them. The first time I had my jaw lock open, it scared me, I thought I would never get my mouth closed again, ^_^

The sinus thing, really I didnt know that. I had heard that happens with cluster headaches. I did notice my nose running with one of my bad migraines. Didnt know that.

Is it possible for blood vessels in the head to be swollen all the time? My head is super sensitive. I dont like anyone to touch it, not unless they know to be gentle.

I take an anti seizure med too.

I didnt know that (fibromyalgia) a type of tendonitis. I had never heard of fibromyalgia before coming to this site, I have heard of tendonitis. My family doctor said I have that in my lower arms. Does it effect all the bodies tendons?

I think you should go on about those wretched pill popping commercials :p . I just saw a new one for migraines. Saying something like you dont have to suffer, had a funny thought, mix it with that commercial that is about spamming--click here and your a winner click here and your a winner- then that guy runs into a glass door. (Suffer from migraines, we have the answer. Just click here and your a winner!)

Hey Milla! I was raised that way too. I outgrew it, I couldnt deal with the pain. I think it is cool that you can avert yours like that. When I was like 10 I used to get a migraine, I would take a tylenol, pray, and go lay down in the dark. Rest and prayer seemed to work. I wish it were still that easy, mine got worse over the years.

I agree with you though, stay away from those mind altering drugs. I took some like that, I didnt like the way it made me, I wasnt me.

Hey, you guys have a good day today. Hugs:hug:

Heaven help me, but I do find that little Zoloft circle kind of cute. I'm so happy when he decides to play with the bug! :D Most drug commercials are abysmal though.
