  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Didn't that happen in 1908 as well?

Scientists are still scratching themselves pink over that one, aren't they?

Now they've got a backlog ...

Another inflammatory remark toward science, I've come to expect nothing less. Nevertheless no, they are not scratching themselves pink at all. In fact, it is a building block on top of what is already known.

Which is what? last I heard (and didn't believe), it was an atomic explosion.

Another one happened in 1947, I think... also in Russia. Russia has bad luck with this.
Meh.

Arizona, the Yucatan ... it happens all over, I guess.

The way scientists talk, I'm surprised earth is still here

Russian citizens very often have dashcams in their car to capture footage of corrupt cops. This event had dashcam video and cell phone video's flooding the net.
Wild stuff. I would have loved to be there to see it streak the sky in person. Awesome stuff!

At least they can blame this one on Mother Nature.

Now Chernobyl ... well ... that one was big pharma... I mean NASA ... er ... someone's fault.

No competent scientist says the 1908 meteor was an atomic explosion, though they do compare it to the force of an atomic explosion.

What are you trying to say? Are you denying this event happened?
Are you asking me?

No, sir, I'm not.

Just having a little fun at scientists' expense. :)

I don't think anyone is placing blame but you.

AV, you have sunk to a new low. How in God's creation can you suggest that NASA was involved in the Chernobyl melt-down?

Rick, fix your quote tags please; or is that how you read my post?

Did you see the 'er' after 'NASA'?

If so, do you know what that means?

Fixed, now answer the question I posed.

I stuck 'NASA' in there on purpose, as a way of objecting to those who blame NASA administration for the Challenger disaster.

It wasn't meant to be taken as you're taking it.

Yes, apparently it's pretty much the same kind of event that took place in 1908, only it exploded further from the surface of the Earth. It was the equivalent of something like 30 Hiroshima sized explosions. A direct hit to a major city would have been devastating.

Scientists have suggested that these were once a century (or so) events, and apparently they were correct. I think the part that freaks everyone out the most is that they "missed it" completely in terms of our tracking of dangerous near Earth objects.
