  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just thought I would start this so we can all get a good Idea about where we all are. I thought that this would be a good companion to the FAQ so that others that visit this forum will have an idea about our beliefs.

How long have you been a Messianic Believer?

Are you a Messianic Jew or Gentile?

Did you discover that you have Jewish ancestry and that was a catalyst for your Messianic beliefs or viseversa?

"How long have you been a Messianic Believer?"

Hard to answer that, because there really isn't a defining moment, however it all started 7 years ago... in a galaxy far far away.

"Are you a Messianic Jew or Gentile?"

Jew

"Did you discover that you have Jewish ancestry and that was a catalyst for your Messianic beliefs or viseversa?"

both.
hehe
I actually had known about my Jewish heritage while a christian, but was only merely fascinated by that fact. I forgot all about it until I had discovered the MJ movement. I "woke up" to many of the Christian Doctrines before I remembered my Jewish heritage and became involved in the MJ movement.
I suppose I should explain something first: My whole life, my ancestory was never very important. I'm pretty much a mutt... Irish, Polish, German, Norwegian, Jewish, etc...
While involved in MJism I remembered the "jewish" ancestory and contacted my grandmother and she explained the whole story to me... (I think it's elsewhere here on these forums, but essentially my grandparents escaped Poland during WWII to avoid the concentration camps, and then converted to christianity in the US because just as much antisemitism was found here)

Anyway, remembering/discovering I had JEwish ancestory after being involved in the MJ movement only fueled my desire all the more....

"Do you attend a Messianic congregation or house group?"

a conservative Synagouge. not messianic.

"Are you Torah observant?"

Yes, to the best of my abilities in life right now. However, we all continue to grow.

"Did you ever attend a Christian church and if so which denomination?"

Yep. Just about every single one under the sun. However, most of my childhood and teen years primarily various Charismatic congregations.

"How has being a Messianic believer enhanced your life?"

The Torah is a blessing in a literal physical sense. As well, understanding the Messiah from a more true perspective adds depth of not only understanding, but of relationship.

Shalom Sonworshipper, and excellent survey.

Hey thank you guys, I really appreciate it, I think it helps to learn more about this as Messianic Judaism is a fairly new movement ( not counting the first century of course) .

Now I know there are more Messianics out there, come on the questions aren't hard and it takes only a few moments to answer them up and give testamony. You never know who may read it and be touched by the Ruach HaKodesh.

Shalom!

How long have you been a Messianic Believer?

well I've been a part of a Messianic congregation for about 6 years now I think. Of course before then I was already somewhat Messianic but just hadn't realized that such a thing as Messianic congregations existed.

Are you a Messianic Jew or Gentile?

I'm part Jewish via my maternal grandmother so that makes me a Messianic Jew.

Did you discover that you have Jewish ancestry and that was a catalyst for your Messianic beliefs or viseversa?

Heh heh, funny story. My grandmother to her dying day never admitted she was Jewish. Thats the way she was raised. I grew up with Hannukah candles and a dradle at her place because it was just "family tradition" and all of those things were done without explanation. After becoming a Christian having converted from Diesm I was soon told about my ancestry by some of my relatives on that side of my family.

Do you attend a Messianic congregation or house group?

Visiting a Messianic congregation in the new area I've moved to.

Are you Torah observant?

Mostly and getting closer all the time.

Did you ever attend a Christian church and if so which denomination?

yes, and too many to list.

How has being a Messianic believer enhanced your life?

Those "family traditions" always enriched my understanding of the bible. Neither the Tanakh nor the Brit Hadashah are complete on their own though many groups like to treat them as such. Only together are they complete. Similar with Messianic Judaism. Its ways are a tree of life, with the Jews being the roots of it and the Gentiles being the branches. Judaism is my religion, while Christianity is my faith. Without the roots of Judaism the faith and religion would become dry and have no foundation and become easily swayed such as we see with all the denominations and theologies. But without the Gentile Christianity there is no growth and no energy, no new life. What Messianic Judaism leads me to is the completeness of both.

Shalom

a. nearly 27 years.

b. Messianic gentile

c. God led me to learn of His covenant teachings,
from what i continue to learn by reading His Word, is this;
i am a gentile believer in His Only Begotten Son,
and am grafted in, saved thru faith in Him,
and what His atonement means for all of us, Jew or gentile,
and that i am accepted in The Beloved.
and regarding covenant, there is no truth to the incorrect teachings of today concerning replacement theology.

d. used to

e. not entirely, by His mercy i am learning.

f. sadly yes, several ones, i won't mention because of forum rules,

g. i love the Lord because He first loved me, and called me, brought me into salvation thru believing in His Only Begotten Son Yeshua.
He alone is Lord and Saviour and has changed my life,
and has increased more deeply in me, a real love and devotion
with a purpose to be in covenant with His nation of Israel.

Shalom!

bat mitzvah at 13. athiest at 16. confirmed in judaism at 18. believer in jesus at 19.

i neither go to church or to messianic services.

disgusted by the church.... frustrated by the messianic congregations.

i dont really know what people mean by observing the torah. i follow the 10 commandments. i read the bible and observe new testament teachings... hmmmm.... confusion sets in easy these days.

i cant stand being the "token" anything... but now, in different situations i can be both the token jew and the token christian.
