• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are Messianics considered Christian by mainstream Christian standards?

That is, do the believe in the Trinity, Jesus is God, etc?

I know they believe that Jesus is the Messiah. And they have their own forum in the CO area http://www.christianforums.com/f34 so I would think they are considered mainstream.

The Jews for Jesus website has an excellent article on their belief in the trinity. Because many of them are fluent in Hebrew they can look at the Old Testament with a greater eye of scrutiny than we can. For example Eloha (God in the singular tense) is used 250 times where Elohim (God as a plural noun) is used 2,500 times! They refer alot to the Old Testament (to help other Jews). Although I'm a baptist, I find some of their posts to be very spiritually helpful.

as a general description - while there is a wide spectrum of commitment and practice - by and large:
Messianics believe that the Jewish Rabbi Yeshua is The Messiah, and that the Spirit of G-d was His spirit - 100% G-d in 100% man housing.

The differences are in the details :) as they are in most faith groups :)

Jews for J-sus is Usually not considered 'messianic' by most Messianic congregations.

fyi...

Simchat,

Could you (or someone) please elaborate?

P.S. I wanted to post on MJ today to show off my new avatar, one result of the recent Messianic Judaism thread in OBOB. As OP of that thread I extend thanks to you, Jason, Zayit, and other MJs who participated.

Shalom,
Toney

Basically, J4J doesn't encourage Torah observance, etc. They pretty much aim to assimilate Jews into protestant christianity.

Ah, Yes, the Lion of Judah who takes away the sins of the world. Toney, I love your new avatar, did you design that yourself? :)

Thanks, Zayit and Zemirah and Henaynei!

As a result of the recent MJ thread over on OBOB, I felt the L-rd was nudging me to open eyes and heart to some new truths.

Once again in my life, the Spirit introduces a fork in the road named Aliyah. Taking the advice of the great sage, Yogi Berra, who once said, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it," my new avatar is but a signpost for this unexpected sally into the the numinous forest.

I use 'signpost' both literally and symbolically. Yesterday, I went searching for an MJ Congregation in my area. Wouldn't you know it: only 10-minutes from the house is the Lion of Judah Congregation. My avatar is their logo.

Hope the birds don't eat the breadcrumbs.
