  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

well I seem to be dancing and choreographing more and more these days....I was wondering who else is doing this? I just had a thought:

anyone out there want to swap choreography? Here in Ca. we are planning a Womens Messianic Worship Conference in Aug and we have been swapping Choroegraphy with different teams all year... I have only been handling a few songs so far but this got me thinking...there may be teams here in MJ that would like to do this too... PM me if you like the idea:thumbsup:

If you’re into choreographing Davidic dance then you should look into this “Karmiel Israel”. People from all over the world go to this 7 day festival in the town of Karmiel. The best of the best of Davidic dance teachers converge to this beautiful town to teach Davidic dance and teach people how to become certified Davidic dance instructors.

How is Davidic Dance different from regular Israeli folk dancing? Having only seen photos on the web, it looks
quite similar....or is the context that gives it the official name of Davidic dance?

thanks,
chava

Davidic Dance, is birth from Israeli folk dancing. Many of the old Israeli folk dancing was choreographed to songs that were prayers. But also the steeps were added to secular songs. One must be careful of the lyrics to some of the songs that may be on a CD, [unless it is a Messianic CD] we have bough Israeli folk dance CD and found some of the songs were not appropriate and others were old blessings.
Our congregation has had two of the teachers come to our congregation from Israel, to see how the Davidic Dance was used in our congregation and they were pleased.
I say if you can go to “Karmiel Israel” then Go!

I'm sure Tish can recommend some good videos. OUr Rabbitzin is a Davidic Dance teacher and teaches each year at the Messiah conference. I could ask her for some recommendations too. At Messiah they go after the service ends each night to a smaller auditorium to do davidic dance until the wee hours of the morning and I do me wee. It is only through the strengthening of the L-RD that they can get up only a few hours later and make breakfast and then first class by nine. :)

I started taking Israeli folk dance from a lady who had a great career in dance(she even danced with my hero, Martha Graham, and thats a wondeful accomplishment for a dancer)... Her classes are not like going to a worship service but the songs are religious in nature so I definately dance with my heart when I am there...It starts around 7pm and finishes around 12am! That's like going to a dance club but the atmosphere is definately instructional and fun...Most of the people show up aroung 8 and leave around 10.....here is her web site ...it has loads of sites on it that may be of interest to someone

I've been busy with applying for a job these last few days, (Please pray for me about that!), so this is the first I've seen this thread. How great to come back here and find another site devoted to Davidic Dance.!

I have been dancing for and with the Lord for over 16 years now, and choreographing for almost as long and currently co-lead the dance ministry in our small Messianic Synagogue.

Torah, I totally agree with what you've said.....it's just what I was thinking when I read the question. Thanks!

For anyone here hasn't been to the Davidic Dance thread in the Dance Forum, I recommend a visit. Among other things, there's been a sharing of some choreography, as well as an entire post devoted to a listing of Davidic Dance websites. Several of them, on my fast-track link for a while now, give steps to many of the popular songs, "golden oldies" as well as "newbies", and everything in-between. And sometimes you'll find more than one set of steps to the same song, such as "Days of Elijah".

I've even found a website solely devoted to dance worship, although not all Davidic, but good otherwise....especially for ideas.

Anyway, pm me if you have any questions.

And I do have one myself: Does anyone know of any Messianic/Israeli dance conferences or workshops (other than the Messiah Conference--can't afford to go right now, especially physically) coming up here in the NY/NJ area?

Why is Davidic Dancing done as part of the service?
Which part of the service is it done at? And is it
something that is done routinely or for "special
occaisions"?

kol tuv,
Chava
ChavaK At our congregation when our service starts a man will stand in the center of the room holding the Torah and people will Dance around him & the Torah. (5 or 6 songs, other men will go up and hold the Torah) Then the Torah will be put away. The service will start with the typical prayers & blessings and after saying each prayer the music for that prayer is played and who ever wants, then dance to that prayer then on to the next prayer.

PS,
Simcha Torah is a "special occasion of dancing around the Torah. ;)
