  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One thing I've noticed that seems to really be lacking in the Messianic movement is a solid Messianic children's curriculum, for ALL age groups (let's say, 2-17 years old). Does anyone have any suggestions for material, are there any Shabbat school teachers out there who can provide their input?

I have found ONE curriculum that I've been using, from our previous congregation in Oklahoma City. We moved back to San Antonio and I've implemented it in our congregation, and teach it to the kids on a weekly basis. (Once I am up to date with uploading the material to our website, I can send you all the link). It has Power Points, handouts for the 4-7 and 8-12 year olds, and lesson plans for the teachers. I had at one point used FFOZ's Children's Torah Club, but it just wasn't sufficient.

Children are the future of this movement. I get a little discouraged when I don't see solid children's programs in Messianic congregations, or when people just don't really seem to want to help out in that area. Not only is it great for the children, but it also helps attract young families to the congregations as well.

Any thoughts? Wanted to post this, to see if there's other good material out there I could use for Shabbat school.

Welcome Rasero,

My name is Sacerdote and I'm one of the forum chaplains. I'm here to help members with spiritual and other personal-type issues. CF has an abundance of things to do and things to help our members. I suggest you familiarize yourself with our Statement of Purpose to let you know what is and what is not allowed in the MJ forum. It'll help you but also help you recognize if something is going on that shouldn't be. It is located at http://www.christianforums.com/t7652097/

I pray that you thoroughly enjoy your time with us and especially the MJ forums.

In Christ and Shalom,

Shalom, Brother Rasero :)

Alot of places in the MJish community seem to have alot of diversity when it comes to curriculum utilized to aid children, especially if the children are geared toward a certain type of expression. In example, for many kids, the focus upon the arts is what seems to draw them since their minds operate in that realm more so than simply having teaching via lecture or class presentation....and alot more use of pictures are acquired in order to aid them. For others, they simply read the Tanakh word for word and have discussion on the matter. For those that are in the levels of 6th-12th grade, there may be more of a focus upon the simple study of scripture via small group sessions and field trips to differing places. Some places utilize nature walks for the older kids, as it concerns showing the beauty of the Lord's creation when discussing TOrah--as Youth Ministry tends to require differing dynamics...and some of the older Middle School/Highschool kids tend to be more content simply hearing the messages from the Main service where the other adults are.

Most of the children's curriculum is for 5th grade/below. As it concerns artistic resources utilized for children, if interested, I'd highly suggest looking up something known as the Jewish Children's Bible Series....

It is indeed a blessing....and something I think is beneficial when it comes to aiding via illustration with the scriptures. Of course, it does not include much of the NT---though what it had to offer was indeed a gem...& of course, plenty of others out there on the issue that one could look into.

Same with other venues utilizing the medium of art when it comes to the Scriptures for portrayal. There's one film I know of which is a clay-animation film on the account of the Exodus---known as "The 10 Commandments":

The Ten Commandments

The stories of the Exodus's accounts are truly some of the most beautiful mentioned in the Scriptures...and seeing them on flim are always a blessing. At the Messianic fellowship I go to, they've often utilized a number of videos for the kids to watch...especially others like Superbook. It's not all that is utilized, of course, but kids tend to be very visual and alot of the instruction for children tends to take more emphasis in the home with families.

Additionally, if you've not heard of it, one can go here to F.L.A.M.E (Foundation for Leadership and Messianic Education) for the childrens' resources they have. Moreover, there's an excellent curriculum for MJish exprerience entitled Celebrations of the Bible: A Messianic Children's Curriculum

This is perhaps the best curriculum to date, as it concerns teaching Children on the beauty of the Savior and the Hebe world

I think it is awesome whenever preschool and Kindergarden-5th grade classes are being instructed with a holiday-centered Messianic Shabbat school curriculum that combines a balance of Tanakh and Brit Chadashah parallel lessons, teaching the Jewish holidays as well as the fulfillment and significance of the holidays as well as Biblical truths in Yeshua via a variety of stories, flannel graphs, puppets, crafts, and activities. For those places that have beginning Hebrew letters and words associated with the lessons are presented and activities that have children learn a monthly Bible verse which they practice reciting each week (with the parents being asked to help as well), it's amazing to see the ways those children are able to excell in knowing of/learning the world of the scriptures :) .

There is truly a great need for lessons to be designed and written to bring life in Messiah to the children as revealed in both the Tanakh (Old Covenant) and the Brit Chadashah (New Covenant) and to draw both the student and teacher into a more intimate relationship with God:) Blessings to you and praying your ministry would thrive as you continue to bless the children as Christ did ( Mark 10:15-17, Deuteronomy 4:8-10, Deuteronomy 11:18-20 ):)
Psalm 78
A maskil[a] of Asaph.

1 My people, hear my teaching;
listen to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth with a parable;
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
3 things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done.
5 He decreed statutes for Jacob
and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
to teach their children,
6 so the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children.
Shalom :)

Do you have a link to the curriculum you use? We are redoing our curriculum at our Kehilah, and I want to see as many existing curricula as possible to make the best selection or develop the best new curriculum.

Thanks so much!
