Hello,

I have 3 questions... i hope someone can answer them..

-Who is the prophet elia? The jews say he must came for the messiah who was he?

-Do christians believe that prophet Elia comes back again?

-And i am looking for good clear prophecies about the messiah in the old-testament, (know as muslim i also believe that Jesus (peace be with him) is the messiah. So when i say clear prophecies i mean propecies that don't talk about the "crucifixion" or stuff like that, i know for christians are that clear prophecies but for me as muslim it isn't so are there other prophecies?

Thanks i hope to get a answer

According to Jesus in the Gospels, John the Baptist was the Elijah who was to come.

Elijah was essentially a word of correction to God's people; a voice to prepare their hearts for the move of God. In the same way, John the Baptist paved the way to receive the Messiah. Indeed, Jesus referred to John as Elijah. In the same way a prophetic voice will rise up in the end times to prepare and restore hearts for the return of Christ. (for the Church will stray from Christ, even as the Jews strayed from God)

The prophet Elijah did not die, but was carried to heaven, and so it is believed (by Jews) that he will return before the return of Messiah. In fact every year a plate and glass are set out at the Passover table just in case he returns on that day.

Malachi 4v5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

John the Baptist is spoken of as having the Spirit of Elijah,
Matthew 1v1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” (Malachi 3v2) - “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ (Isaiah 40v3)” And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

If you read chapter 17 of Matthew, it is the story known as the transfiguration, where Moses and Elijah came down from heaven to speak with Jesus. They were enveloped in a cloud. This cloud is often spoken of in Exodus when the children of Israel were travelling through the desert. It would rest on the Tabernacle they build and was the visible manifestation of God.

There is an account of two witnesses in Revelation chapter 11. Verse 3
"And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” They are “the two olive trees” and the two lamp stands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”

I believe that these two witnesses are Moses and Elijah who will come before the return of Jesus. In sure some people may disagree:)

zaksmummy you say that Eliah did not die but was carried to heaven but when i read the bible i read: John 3:13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man. I Don't understand it.

But to all:

The Evangelist has Jesus emphasizing that He has the authority to talk about these things; effectively that only someone who actually came from heaven (Jesus) can actually talk about matters of heaven.

As noted before, John the Baptist was the Elijah, at least according to what Jesus Himself says.

Some Christians believe there will be a literal return of Elijah before the return of Jesus, but I think the answer is clear in the Gospels: John fulfilled that role.

Okee thanks CryptoLutheran.

-Another thing, jews said that the Messiah must be born out of 2 parents why they say that, the messiah where we in believe is born out a virgin mary. But how can the jews come with that point?

-Also they have a list about things that the messiah must fulfilled, for example:
Jews will know the Torah without study (Jeremiah 31:33)
The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)
The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)

Do you Christians also believe in this, and is this already fulfilled?

This (in your last post) is a difference between Jews and Christians. Jews see this as an all-or-nothing, while Christians see that these things have been fulfilled in part, with the rest not happening until He returns in Glory. Scripture says they "did not recognize the time of their visitation."

There are a couple of people in the bible who were taken to heaven; Elijah being one of them (2 Kings 2v11), and Enoch (Genesis 5v23) was the other.

As for Jesus' quote, I cant answer that one - I'll have to do a bit more study.

Judaism has a body of writings about the bible with lots of discussion about who the Messiah is, what role he has to play, how the prophecies are to be fulfilled etc. Its called the Talmud. Actually its more like a library!

Jeramiahs quote is actually not about this world, its about the world to come, when God will dwell with man on the earth. What he is saying is that at that time people will not have to tell each other about God because he will dwell on the earth with man, we will be able to go to Jerusalem, (and will be required to go to Jerusalem) to worship him.

The One Jew that Zechariah is talking about is the Messiah. There are other prophecies that say the Messiah will have healing in his wings, referring to the Tallit or prayer shawl that Jewish men, including Jesus wear, or in the English translation - the hem of his robe. This prophecy can been seen in its out working in the gospels with the women who had been bleeding for 12 years. She held onto the helm of Jesus' Tallit and was healed. (Sorry cant find the verse, but the story is in most of the gospels).

Im sure that at some point the Sanhedrin will be re-established, where it will be in this world or the world to come, Im not so sure.

The other things you need to understand is that there is a big difference between what Christians believe and what Jews believe.

Romans 11 talks about how non-Jews can be grafted into the faith of Abraham, and how the Jewish people have rejected Jesus as the Messiah so that non-Jews or gentiles can receive salvation. Paul finishes by saying that when the "fullness of the gentiles have come in" ie found salvation through faith in Jesus, the Jewish people will be blinded to his Messiah-ship no longer and accept him as such.

Why am I telling you this, because Christianity's history of persecution of the Jews has made many of them look at their writings and try to find alternative explanations to refute Jesus' claim to Messiah-ship. So they will not accept that Jesus is born of a virgin, because the Hebrew refers to a young women as a virgin, whether she is married or not.

Hope this helps.:)

First of all thanks everyone..

Then,

-In the first reaction i get a site with so called prophecies, but there are a lot of things on that site which i as muslim don't accept... things about crucifixion or that Jesus (peace be upon him)died for our sins, are there also prophecies about Jesus (peace be upon him) where i can find me in as a muslim?

-Why the Jews reject Jesus (peace be upon him) why do they say Jesus (peace be upon him) has not do the things which the messias had must done? Why they can't accept him as the messiah?

Denying that Jesus died at all, seems (to me) to make it certain that one remains outside of His Blessing towards the Body of Christ. This appears to be a deep and fundamental difference between our traditions.

-Why the Jews reject Jesus (peace be upon him) why do they say Jesus (peace be upon him) has not do the things which the messias had must done? Why they can't accept him as the messiah?

The place to start addressing this, would be with a list of what Jews expect that Jesus indeed did not do. (What He did do that they don't accept is a different thing)

Biggies are world peace, everyone embracing Judaism, and knowing Torah law w/o studying ...

Like I said earlier, Romans 11 says;
I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not think you are superior: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written:
“The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins"

Jews also say that Jesus did not fulfilled all the prophecies spoken about Messiah - he did not restore Israel as the Son of David, ie as a conquering hero, eternal peace has not yet come upon Israel, not all Jews yet live in Israel etc.

So we know why they dont believe that he is Messiah.

Matt 16v13
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

What about you? Who do you say that Jesus is?

Where exactly is this stated by the Jews?

inspector-gadget said:

Do you Christians also believe in this, and is this already fulfilled?

Jeremiah 31:33 was fulfilled at Pentecost. That is, people were filled with the Holy Ghost, and God thereafter had the means to teach people directly rather than rely on church leaders, in the case of Jews, the Pharisees and Saducees. (And that is why the temple system was destroyed...it had no purpose.)

Who are the Jews? God's people are the Jews who accepted Christ and formed the Body of Christ. And as there is now no more Jew and Gentile, those that believe in Christ are the Jews of this age. Of course the Jews as a faith, will return to God through faith in Christ, but that is yet to happen.

The scripture in Isaiah does not refer to the San Hedrin, but rather refers to the righteous leadership that God has in place from the beginning.

This is called replacement theology.

The Jews are those people born of a Jewish mother.

Those of us gentiles who have faith in Jesus are part of the Greater Commonweath of Israel (Romans 11), but that does not make us Jewish, but grafted in.
