  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am not sure I understand the point you are trying to make?

You seem to be suggesting that it is acceptable for soldiers to get paid for their work. Well as an ex-soldier myself I would not argue with that principle. So who or where was suggesting that the paying of soldiers is unacceptable or immoral etc?

If you are refering to people who go and fight in wars without the sanction of their own government then are they all to be viewed as mercenaries?

Clearly if such people take up arms against their own national government and people then expressions such as traitor come to mind . Mind you would you call every German Italian or Japanese who worked for the allied side in WW2 a traitor ? technically they were I suppose but most people today would say that they were on the side of the greater good.

What if today some European or American person decided to take up arms and fight the Sudanese forces and the illegal militias they support raping and killing in Western Sudan ? Would such a person be branded as a mercenary simply for joining a fight that did not have the approval of his own government? Or could they be seen as taking up arms for a just cause? Now if they were paid by the body count then that might be highly questionable. Also if they simply joined such a fight as a means to make money then there are moral issues to be raised but if they are fighting to stop what they percieve as evil then are their actions legitimate?

I think all of these issues need to be considered when tossing about the term Mercenary.

For example what about those Americans who signed up with French forces in WW1 or UK forces in WW2 to fight against Germany at a time when the US was neutral?
