I find I memorize the scriptures as God reveals or should I say highlights them in my life. By this I am meaning when reading a chapter there is always one or two scriptures that really speak they stand out They are so alive and have such a deep meaning
I find them very easy naturally to memorize without any effort.

hi prayingtogod, i'm glad you decided to memorize scripture because i believe it's essential to the christian life. Jesus had a whole bunch of verses in his head that he was able to pick and choose the most appropriate one to throw back at Satan. Just recently i was talking to my friend stating that if given a choice, i would prefer to memorize scripture consistently than to read 40 chapters of the bible a week. The reason being is once you memorize it stays in you forever, whereas those 40 chapters would be just like any other book-u forget them.

Anyway, u can start with your fav verse or what. Sometimes what i do is flip the bible and see which verse catches my attention. It'll do you good if you could find someone who wants to memorize scripture too so both of you can be accountable to each other in that area.

I use a memory verse kit. I can't remember the name of it. I think it is from NavPress. Anyway, it has scripture on small cards you can carry in your pocket and the verses are categorized by topic (eg - obedience, prayer, etc) The suggested method for this kit is to say the topic, verse location, actual verse, and then verse location again.

Example - Christ the center - 2 Cor. 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old has gone, the new has come. - 1 Cor 5:17

This method is suggested so you will not only memorize the verse but also the subject matter that it deals with.

It has a neat little carry case so you can always have your whole set of verses with you. I think there are about 40 verses in a set and I believe you can get additional sets.

Reading the Bible daily helps. People who have memorized scripture have spent a lot of time in the word. Knowing their meaning and how to apply them is actually more important than memorizing them.

As I come across a pieces of scripture, and see how it applys to life, I write it down on a 3x5 and carry it with me.   :priest:

Say, does anyone wanna memorize scripture together? I'm relatively new at this....been at it for 6 months now but only memorized not more than 50 verses. So i need some form of accountability...any takers?oh, and i'm 22 and a university undergraduate for your info.

Well,

I struggle with this too, although I have to confess I have never really got down to memorize scripture. I am very good at knowing what the bible says but I always paraphrase it and have a general idea of which books contain waht i am saying. I was always like this, that's why I was good in my universtity phillosophy classes, gee, I didn't even studied for a whole semester and got an A cus I just pay attention and have great retention but my retention is general, or the idea rather than the exact words.

Now, I recognize that there is nothing more powerful than literally quoting the word of God, because its powerful, and knowing where things are is like being a well trained and experienced soldier with dexterity and speed.

Any advice as to how to memorize. What do you do, repeat the verse and the location? Do you do one a day? please help this is real important as I help a lot of people and I love opening the door to Jehova's Witnesses :D

Hi luigi028, for me i've been memorizing verses and it brings a very strong feeling of closeness to our God. You can start with picking a random verse that you find useful and memorizing. Just think of all the verses that are in your head already...pick each of them out and make sure u mememorize it word for word. Btw, i created a memory verse program to store all your verses, do download it at the Bible Resources section at http://members.truepath.com/seanygoh/index.html

Wow Sean,

That's a really cool program. Really, thanks a LOT!
Very professional installation and the program runs like a charm. You created it in VB? I especially like the fact that it comes blank, because I can then put verses in english or spanish. Maybe version 2.0 can have different banks to store the same verses in different languages or different bible versions. Listen if you dont mind, I can create some real nice graphics for it to visually enhance it. (I've worked doing interfaces for apps and CD-Roms for like 5 years now) Also, I noticed the graphics on your homepage are a bit too big (specially for peeps with modem) I notice that one of your screenshots was like 78Ks and i just did a simple test and as a gif 32 colors they can come down at 23Ks.

Anyways God Bless you and once again thanks a lot!
