  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, sure! This is what I do:
Write the verse down on a peice of paper.
Say the verse out loud( repeat it outloud about three times)
After you repeat it a couple times, fold it up and put it in your pocket. Look at the verse several times a day, like inbetween classes, or whenever you have time, that way you will refresh your memory. See if you can say the verse out loud without looking on your paper.

It helps me to memorize scripture by writing it down or repeating it out loud. Besides, we memorize all the words to out favorite songs, right? So memorizing a bible verse is the same way. You can even use the tune of your favorite song to help you remember scripture. Just insert the words of the Bible verse in the song. Kind of crazy, but it works. It would be as if you where singing a prayer to God.
Good Luck! hope these help

I put aside a half hour to read every night and sometimes I choose to read the same chapter three times in a row. It takes some discipline but for me it eventually became habit. That repetition really helps to memorize key verses. Also being in a Bible study group and just talking about things out loud has helped me memorize verses without even know it!

Hello!

I'm looking for ways to memorize scripture. Anything! Its something I want to do but haven't found a method that works for me yet. Any ideas?

Don't try to do too much at once. Only memorise one verse at a time, to start with, and repeat it to yourself during the day. Then the next day, repeat the new one, plus the one from the day before. At the end of the week, go back to the first verse again, and repeat the whole process.

You can train your mind to be more retentive, but it takes time. Children can do this easily, but older people take longer to memorise anything.

The key about this is taking
The time to memorize the scriptures!

It isn't just time. Some people will find it harder to memorise, because of age and other factors.

Children and students will find it easy, the rest of us will not.

This is a way also. 1. pray and ask the Holy Spirit to write it on your heart.
2. write it down on paper several times.
3. meditate on the scripture you are memorizing asking for revelation.
4. continue to meditate even when you are doing something else.
5. also when you read the particular verse speak it outloud several times.

hope this will help.

Read it over and over again and care about what it says.
Understand it before you memorize it and think of application for it while you memorize it.
Teach others what the scripture means. Discuss it with people.

Here is good info in general about God's Word

Hello!

Flashcards. Put the scripture on one side and the location on the other. You can also color code them by category...have all scriptures you want to memorize on salvation for instance, in one color so that you can seperate them out and work on specific subjects to master. I use Biblos.com toe locate the scripture, copy and paste to MS word and print out on full sheek labels and then stick on 4 x 6 index cards.

The nice thing is, you can terst yourself at any time, just shuffle and go to work! :)

Hope it helps.

Constant repetition is most helpful. That's how I have been able to memorize the Nicene and Apostle's creeds. I would recite in church every week, then I would slowly try and stop looking at the words. Now I don't need the words.

I did Bible memorization as a child. It was more or less done the same way. Sometimes I added a tune to it.
