Last year my girlfriend and I stopped going to Campus Crusade for Christ because the people had really changed, and were more interested in getting more people. We had gone the previous two years and enjoyed it, but suddenly people stopped coming (well, it was due to the music... two weeks in a row 25 people just walked out during worship! Ouch!) and the entire atmosphere changed. The messages weren't as meaningful and the two of us generally felt ignored, so we stopped going.
After three weeks of being here at school, we finally decided to give it a try as everyone we knew there (including the staff) were really excited to have us come. We did put up a little resistance, but finally went last night, and boy was it a good decision! I feel God really placed it on our hearts to give them a third chance and it was certainly worth it! Everyone seemed SO DIFFERENT! They were really excited to see us, and there were even more people that we knew there than ever before! The fellowship was amazing and felt really great!
AND the message was absolutly amazing! Very useful, and practical in every day life. The topic was, "4 H's for addressing Gray Areas" and was about more trivial things such as alcohol, smoking, secular music, etc. The for H's are is it HELPFUL, beneficial or constructive fore me?
Is it a HABIT? Is it an addictive behavior? Is it HURTFUL for another? A weaker Christiani? and, "Is it Honoring to God?" It was really neat because the guy was saying how it is really up to the individual. Some people listen to music and absolutly absorb the lyrics and it changes their attitude... so therefore, according to these four H's, it would be sinful for them to listen to secular music. But other people it doesn't make any difference, so for them it would be OK. But also, consider those around you!
Anywho, I digress... CRU (as we call Campus Crusade for Christ) has a retreat every quarter that they offer the students. It's $50 and isn't that bad, but Katie and I (my g/f) went once and really was not a good experience for us. The staff at CRU always put so much pressure on you to go and really make you feel guilty if you can't. (Well, in the PAST anyway). Long story short, both of us signed up for their fall retreat in two weekends last night! We both felt that God has brought us back to CRU for a reason, and if we want to please God it would be in our best interest to go. So yippee! We're both SO excited for it!
God is so awesome! Another thing that helped my decision was the fact that I need to place God at the top of my list of priorities again. Flying started nudging Him down the list last year, and was when I started getting in trouble with my flying. I did have 3 flights scheduled for the weekend of the retreat, but I need to cancel those for God. I know that He will make up for the "lost time" in my flying. (And by no means do I actually consider that time lost!!)
So, yeah, that's awesome!
