Just noticed something this morning!

There are several different words using the OT for “work” and “labor”, but what is interesting is the word used with regard to the work/labor that we are not to perform on the Sabbath.

Check this out!

Exo 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour (‛a[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]bad), and do all thy work (mela[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]'ka[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]h): But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work (mela[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]'ka[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]h), thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

While the Hebrew word “‛a[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]bad” means “work (in any sense)”, the Hebrew word “melâ'kâh” means “deputyship” and is derived from the the Hebrew word “mal'âk” which means “a messenger; specifically of God, that is, an angel”

From an unused root meaning to despatch as a deputy; a messenger; specifically of God, that is, an angel(also a prophet, priest or teacher): - ambassador, angel, king, messenger.

It is used in Gen 2 when it speaks of the work of God with regard to creation:

Gen 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work (mela[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]'ka[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]h) which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work (mela[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]'ka[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]h) which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work (mela[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]'ka[FONT=&quot]̂[/FONT]h) which God created and made.

Wondering how this might relate to the fact that we are “his workmanship” and salvation is “of the Lord”?

Haven't really delved into it yet... just thought that was pretty cool.

Jesus was about His Fathers business

We are His workmanship created in Christ unto good works, but even Paul says, "are ye not my work in the Lord" too

Not sure, speaks of labouring to enter His rest, and Him being Lord of the rest, even as we come unto Him and He gives rest just the same.

But not sure how to go about comparing in this instance (or from that starting point) I guess.
