Have you ever listened to couples talk to each other and they say really stupid things? Especially when they are not intellectually inclined. If you were to transcribe their conversations it would be the most idiotic stuff imaginable. Imagine taping somebody talking to their dog, a really talkative person who has no idea that anyone is listening. Then someone transcribes it and sends it to all the newspapers for the entire world to read and analyze. Would that be fair to the person?
My dad was, well, kind of a jerk sometimes. I can remember my parents coming home from parties, with frowns on their faces. Usually because my dad said something to my mom to embarrass her, after she might have said or done something to embarrass him. You know what I mean. Anyway, they would get into arguments and even using some PG rated profanity. But by the end of the evening they were giggling and joking with each other. Sometimes I suspected they did the entire argument just so that they could make up with each other.
Now imagine an actor like Mel Gibson. Isn't it possible that their conversation was something that happened on a daily basis, possibly? Yes, it's incredibly juvenile and embarrassing. But their is a reason that it is like that. It was an intimate thing (at least from Mel's side). They may have gone through that on a daily basis. Mel is an actor and a storyteller. He could have been working on a character or a new film in his head.
I used to live next to a guy who talked just like him. He was actually a Christian, though he didn't attend church much. But he would tell me the most outlandish stories about people he had interacted with (at Walmart, etc) and had told them off in the most outlandish way. I know the guy was lying though. He was a very talkative type. Also, very easily angered. He was practically telling stories all the time whenever I hung around him. Sometimes he would describe jumping out his window and attacking thieves or something totally bs like that. Get this: he also used to tell me how much he identified with Mel Gibson. He even sounded like Mel Gibson. And when I was listening to Mel Gibson's tape, it sounded just like my old friend telling one of his bs stories. Exactly.
Anyway, I hope this made some sort of sense.
Basically, I think that people are sometimes too quick to analyze something, acting like it's some kind of gospel message in it's importance, when in reality it could just be a whole lot of bs, and the couple ends up giggling together at the end of the evening.
