I've been doing a five week introductory course in meditation. Its been so helpful because it trains you to recognise and be aware of your thoughts and feelings, but not necessarily react to them. For example, when I start to think negatively or feel angry I am aware of it and I can let it pass instead of getting wound up in it and making things worse.
You might want to give meditation a try, it just involves sitting still and focusing your attention on one particular thing. It could be a word, a sound, an image or just the feeling of your breathing.
