• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm suffering from Anxiety(ocd) and depression.

I'm seeing a new therapist soon. I know they will prescribe me something. When I was taking an anti-depressant, a few years ago, it made my body feel awful and when I would get upset, I would throw them down the drain. (I know, strange).

I stopped taking the medicine and lo and behold my illness got much worse...enough to develop another illness ocd.
It's awful!!!!!:cry:I'm too young to feel like this!

I know some people advise to stay away from prescription drugs. Should I at least try it? What's your experience?

Also, would they put me on two medications? One for my ocd and the other for my depression?

Thanks
.

I have been on several different meds and have found that they do help somewhat. Prozac worked best for me for my anxiety, depression, and OCD. I think being on meds is a personal choice. Find a good therapist that knows about OCD and depression. I try to think of it this way. If we had diabetes, we wouldn't hesitate to take insulin. But, because what we have is classified as a mental illness, we hesitate. Just keep in close contact with your therapist if the meds bother you. People have different experiences with them and it may take time to find the right one.

Hope this helped. God Bless.
