• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Thank God for Zoloft. It has made a huge difference in me. I still get anxious sometimes and even a touch of depression, but I am so much better than I was this time last year. I'll admit, I think the first few days I was on it were tough. I'll be praying that you find the right medication!

If the switch was recent you shouldn't expect anything good for quite a few weeks. My mom's last medication switch, for example, took about six weeks to kick in. During that six weeks she had an incredibly rough time, but it ended up being worth it.

Give your new medication some time, communicate with your doctor regularly, and make yourself feel some hope that it may work better. Worst case scenario is it ends up the Paxil was better and you go back to that... meanwhile, it's a couple months of your life that may end up worth the depression.

Do you need doctors approval?

Hi, It's best to call your doctor when doing anything with medication. Some medications need to be weaned down slowly, and just stopping a medication causes problems also.

So, please check with your doctor if this was about you, because they need to know and advise about medications.

Blessings,
Tapero

Zoloft helped me before. After a month of taking it, it worked, thanks to God only. I felt so good that I soon got off of it and tried to resist on my own. I resisted for about a year, and now I'm on my first week back on Zoloft. A big reason why I didn't want to take Zoloft was the risks and side-effects, but like I said, things have gotten so bad that I'm back on it.

You have to talk to your doctor and see if zoloft is the right medication for you.

I'm not a medication taker. I don't like to take medication. So if I'm on medication, that means things have really, really gotten bad.

Hi,
First Doc. tried Paxil with me. I pretty much climbed the walls with that.. extreme increase in my anxiety... then Zoloft same thing but I toughed it out for 15 days waiting for it to kick in. Then I developed a rash on my arms and Doc. took me off it. I'm one of those individuals who gets paradoxical anxiety at first with meds. So then they put me on Remeron.. started with higher dose 30 mgs. because there's less side affects at higher dose. Then they added 15 mgs. of Buspar. Buspar caused the paradoxical anxiety also so I had to work my way up with baby step doses, but now I'm doing well on it. Remeron makes me very hungry which was nice at first as I could hardly eat anything. Now I'm working out and trying to diet to avoid gaining too much weight on it. It really helps me get a good night sleep also. I would say that these meds. have given me about a 70 percent improvement in my symptoms which I feel is very good. I'm very functional on them.. though I still battle the thoughts from time to time.
