  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you do not believe in the power of prayer then does that mean you do not believe in metaphysics and mind over matter and the law of attraction? I guess it is also a pretty sure thing that you do not believe in the resurrection power of God.

I once lost my sunglasses, and I asked my toaster to help me find them. Half an hour later I found them. Proof my toaster listened to me and helped me out.

In thanks, I cleaned out his crumb tray.

I believe in annihilationism.
People get pretty much what they bargain for in life.
That is what they want and that is what they will get.

Sorry, I forgot you don't believe in hell. Hard to keep it straight with all the Christians I speak to.

No, I ask you about why it's okay to take personal testimonies at face value with lethal disease that acts in such a way that patients often remain asymptomatic for years while still being positive.
If you do not need a miracle then maybe it would not matter for you. For me I needed answers and solutions and Science had NOTHING to offer me. So I went looking for the answers and the solutions I needed. A friend suggested that I try the Bible. I figured I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. As it turns out I found what I was looking for. I found the answers and the solutions I needed. Also when I do not follow the teaching of the Bible then the results of that are nothing short of disaster. So I advise people to follow the teaching of the Bible and turn to God for answers and solutions. If you can get that to work for you wonderful. We believe in the miracle power of God because sometimes that is what we need to solve the problems we are having.

I want answers, too. I'm just not satisfied with filling God into the blank wherever we can't find natural answers. That indicates a resignation of the search, and is not an answer at all. Or worse, denying the natural answer in favor of a supernatural one.

And your example of miracle HIV healing is a perfect example. You have been given a perfectly reasonable (and testable) natural explanation, but instead you answer it with God.

People who get false positives NEVER HAD THE DISEASE, and are therefore not healed of it. To think it's a miracle is preposterous. I wouldn't have made such a claim even when I was a believer. If you could demonstrate that some people are unequivocally healed from ACTUALLY HAVING HIV, that would be a different story. But you can't even give a single example, let alone show a pattern.

Let me see if I got this right. You talk to your toaster and your toaster answers you. Why does that not surprise me?

You can't argue with results, though.

How would YOU explain the fact that I prayed to my toaster and then found my sunglasses?

You haven't shown they are "miracles". What you have instead shown is an astounding lack of rigor in investigating claims.

Clearly you got help from St Anthony: Patron of Lost Things. You just want to give credit to your toaster rather then to give credit to whom credit is due. This sort of misdirection is common.

Why a testimony is not good enough for you? So I have to spend all my time to investigate every claim you make? What if I do not have time to investigate your claims?

No, I expect you to investigate every claim you make. You're the one making the claim, you should do the investigation.

At first glance, this would seem to be correct. However, I prayed many times to St Anthony and nothing happened. I only got the results once I started praying to my toaster.

I do. People can claim the evidence does not say what I say it says. But they do not ever claim there is no evidence to back up what I am saying.

They are claiming there is no evidence to back up what you are saying because you misrepresent what your sources are saying.

I will need to check with St Anthony and get back to you on that. I just can not imagine him not being able to get the job done.

Might want to talk to him about your missing marbles.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Of course you HAVE to say that, because the evidence I present always proves you wrong. So you either have to falsify the evidence or admit you did not get it right.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

Oh, I know where my marbles went. My mom gave all that stuff away when she was cleaning out the house and getting it ready to sell. She also gave away a 78 rpm Bozo the Clown album and an original Howdy Doody Puppet. I was not that good at marbles though. They had already got all my good ones. My brother was good at it though. He had a lot more reason then me to be upset over losing his marbles.
