  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fasting is always good for the soul, regardless of when.

As for the Lent requirements, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the only two days where fasting is required. There are many who choose to fast every Friday during Lent as well as abstain from meat. This would be my suggestion as well, although it's not prescribed as an observance that we must follow.

God Bless!

hehe, I just had to laugh when I read this. hehehehe. I'm still smiling... heh heh... ^_^ Don't starve yourself!! We need food to live!! (lol) (I'm just riling you up :) I, personally, am going to have a hard time giving up ice cream).

I go through phases where food is 'boring'. Infact, food is so 'boring' that I don't even want to eat ever again: I'd rather take pills like in the Jetsons cartoon show. Then I go through burrito phases-- where I actually go to sleep dreaming about eating burritos and guacamole and when I wake up I'm all excited because I can fineally eat again. (us Canadians are a strange brew I guess).

I think that the current requirements for fasting is one small meatless meal on that day or two very small meatless meals that would equal one small meal. And try not to scarf down as soon as midnight is past or drinking strawberry malts all day long because they are only drinks (I try sticking with water, good for you). Basically it is the intent that is really important, and if you are successful you really do feel like you are takings more steps with the Lord. The big thing to do is to pray. It helps tons. There are books and pamphets about the Lenten season (which is supposed to be joyful) in Catholic bookstores and online. Buy one and soon you'll be so excited to do this and the reason for it that you can't wait for Friday to come around (well, I hope that I'm not the only one ;) )

ok so are we supposed to fast on fridays too does that mean no food whatso ever, because food happens to be my best friend, and i think i would die without it. But if that is what God calls me to do, i can deal with it. I jus like food period. so a little help on what to do?

Not to be confused with "abstaining". Catholics of age are required to abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent. As already mentioned, fasting to be done on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. These are minimums. More power to you if you can keep it up longer!!!

I hate fish/seafood, so this is truly penance for me. And the lack of pop is giving me caffeine headaches! :( I'm good for at least a 15 pound loss...and I need it, since I'm getting married in May.

Okay everyone you're going to love this... remember how I said that I would start making my lunches the day before Friday, as to make sure that I have a meatless meal?? Well, my boyfriend made my lunch for me (we don't live together, I was just too tired to do it myself) and guess what he made me?? A chicken wrap! I *told* him that I was giving meat up on Fridays and... and.. arggg!! (throws hands up in the air).

I think I'll just go get a can of tuna and replace the chicken with it. It'll be a waste of food but at least God will see my intentions.
