There are about four Lebanese restaurants in the area, who's owners come to my Church. Sometimes they cater our coffee hours, and when they do, often they will bring Sambousak (meat pie), Fatayer (spinach pie), and Zaatar. Yum!

Not quite - pies over her are slightly different .

My favourites are where the meat is cooked first - in a rich gravy which can be thickened if you want [ toss cubes of meat in flour ]

Then you line your deepish dish [ anything over 2ins is good :) ] with pastry , gently put your meat in its gravy in and then make a lid of pastry [ with a couple of slits to let the steam out ] and cover the steak with it making sure the lid is well sealed to the dish .

Cook then till the pastry is nice and golden and eat nd enjoy :)

What are in them?

Usually beef, spices, onions, sometimes cheese. Depending on whether they are Jamaican, Latin American, or Spanish Empanadas, the seasoning can vary.

While I will admit that I have never made them, I certainly have enjoyed them!

Sounds basically like what Mrs. G puts in the meat pies. Except, I have her add bbq sauce!
