How do you deal with a sibling who is nasty to you but nice to their friends and other people? How do you deal with that also when they refuse to take responsibility for any of their own actions and blame you for everything they possibly can?

I have a sibling exactly as you have described. He has been that way for over 20 years and I have tried with him so so many times only to end up heartbroken. Pray for him and let him go, limit your contact, and if he's anything like my brother that won't be difficult at least on a regular basis.

I was talking on phone to sibling once/week
one day, sibling totally went off on me for several things
she was even angry that husband & I took our daughter on vacation 10 yrs ago @ Christmas time apparently she thinks everyone has to be at grandmas house on Christmas day

sorry but I have my own family & we're entitled to vacation

so after that crazy phone conversation, I didn't call again for 2 mos
when sibling "acts up" I limit contact; I don't need the stress

I don't know what specifics you're dealing with, but in my family there is a lot of addiction and abusiveness. One thing I've been taught in recovery is that anything we put up with, will continue as long as we put up with it. Of course it's important for Christians to forgive, but sometimes even the closest relatives have to be forgiven from a nice, safe distance. That's because forgiveness and trust are two different things. If a dog bites me, I can forgive the dog, but I'm sure going to think twice before I try to pet that dog again.

I wholeheartedly agree with those who advise limiting contact as much as necessary, even cutting it off completely if you have to.

I just can't figure out what's going on in my sibling's mind. There are so many accusations against me, even for this sibling forgetting to do things I am blamed for not reminding that sibling. I always try to fix my mistakes so I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong. But it looks like this sibling just has a hard hate filled heart and words don't get through no matter what I say. And I am tired.

I had to move to another state because I was advised to get a restraining order and knew it would be useless. I don't want to list details online. The Bible says to pray for your enemies so that's what I did and I asked for God's help. DON'T pray for anything bad to happen to that person! Sadly about a year later I learned that she had cancer. She treated me poorly most of my life. I called her and sent love over the phone. I went back and visited her in the hospital. I called her often and told her I was sorry we didn't get along. She said, "I love you." Don't hold grudges. God bless you!

Amen. I hope she had a peaceful end. I've tried so hard with my sister. I am tired. The Lord is my strength. God help all of us facing this sibling rivalry battle.

Her husband blocked all my efforts to teach her about Jesus. He didn't let her have the USPS mail I sent and when she was in the hospital I called her near the end to talk about Jesus; he took the phone away from her and hung up. I went to her viewing and he was there with his arm around the waist of another woman!

I hope that whatever seeds you had planted in her life about the gospel before she died were able to bear fruit and bring her some peace before she died.

I never thought of it as a duty. She had a stressful life and was trapped in horrible circumstances. Her husband belongs in jail.

It's very unfortunate what happened in your sister's life. You did all that you could and that's what matters. No matter our circumstances, when Jesus calls us, we have to be willing to respond to Him positively so He can change us and our circumstances. <3

God arranged a positive influence in my life at age 4; not so for my 5 siblings. A lot of responses are influenced by circumstances. Jonah is an example.
