• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Fair enough @bhsmte. I certainly don't have your educational background. I had just heard differently over the years.

Again, the consensus in personality studies is that personality types are set early in life and change very little (if at all) from early in life.

As I stated though, behaviors and the frequency of certain behaviors can change and it appears some feel, if my behaviors have changed, then my personality has changed and that is simply not the case.

How do you differentiate, internal responses from behaviors?

What I feel about a situation (excitement, nervousness, etc.) as separated from whether I choose to do something or not.

Example: speaking in front of a group (behavior) used to make me very nervous (internal) and I would tend to avoid it (behavior). Now I frequently speak in front of groups (behavior), I enjoy it rather than being nervous (internal) and I tend to seek out opportunities to do so (behavior).

What you explain comes with experience and the comfort that comes from experience, not a change in your personality type.

I can relate to public speaking and early in my life, I would have rather stuck needles in my eyes than to partake in the same. Since that time, I got into slowly and have spoken in front of audiences as large as 1,000 people and it is not big deal to me anymore.

I was a college athlete (baseball) and the first time I went up to bat in front of a crowd of many thousand people, I was so nervous my hands were shaking. After going through the experience a few times, the nervous element completely went away and I didn't even think about it anymore. This change came about through having gone through the experience and building the confidence, that I could perform.

Since there was talk about extroversion and introversion earlier, let's talk about MBTI and how you guys score.

Bare in mind, this isn't a science. It's merely a crude tool and a guide in understanding what might be underlying motivators in how we interact with the world around us. Please don't take your results as an end-all, but something interesting and a possible insight. Remember we are all growing into fuller maturity as we walk in Christ.

My adjustment came as a matter of my transition, not experience. I wasn't seeking out public speaking and getting more used to it. I found that I was enjoying it now where I was hating it before.

How do you know this change didn't come about from simply being more comfortable in doing so?

By feeling more comfortable being in front of a group? That is the major reason. Feeling more comfortable isn't a behavior though.

Feeling more comfortable in a situation, from gaining experience, does impact your behavior.
