• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My family don't understand that is because they like out of state and do not see what I go through . So they think a lot of it is in my head .

When will people ever accept that the brain is an actual organ that can malfunction just like any other organ. I have some friends who don't "get it" either. The whole stigma and having to educate people is so exhausting. They don't take you seriously unless they see blood shooting out of your head. The funny thing is no one questions post-partum depression, or mood changes caused by the thyroid gland/adrenal (endocrine) system etc. Heck, even PMS, which is a mood altering syndrome triggered by hormonal imbalances, is never questioned even though we have no tests that prove what's going on. Everything is governed by the brain, so why is mental illness still viewed with such resistance? Maybe we should push for neurology 101 to be taught beginning at the Secondary level. It's just ridiculous how moronic and callous people are about brain illnesses. I don't even want to call it "mental" illnesses anymore, but rather "brain illness", since the word "mental" gives the connotation that it's psychological as opposed to biological.

However, scientists are coming close, with FMRI technology, to a definitive test proving various types of mental illnesses. I hope it happens in my life time so i can shove it down the throat of every person who blamed it on "THE DEVIL". (Sorry for my harshness...but i just get a little frustrated with that antiquated circle of believers and had some bad experiences when i came to them for alleged qualified counseling and help). Had they been informed/qualified, they could have directed me to get diagnosed a lot earlier. Instead, i got these absurd "deliverance sessions" for my depressions that did nothing for my serotonin levels since they were too busy casting out satan.

I agree with everything you said . I also think some people just don't want to know and don't care to know . People can be cruel and don't care about or feelings . I am to the point if they don't like the way i am then they can just stay away from me .

What do you think about Facebook "friends" should I count them as real friends? I have a lot of Facebook "friends" but I never see them in real life so I don't tend to count them as real friends. Maybe I should so I don't make myself so miserable. I saw an interview in Fox news not long ago where they were saying that today's social life is all on electronic media like Facebook or even this forum. They said people no longer visit each others home or interact socially like they used to. They were even encouraging parents to have Facebook accounts for their kids for this very same reason. I notice that in my neighborhood people keep to themselves and don't socialize with their neighbors.

Teach it brother!! :) I agree with and embrace everything you've said here.
This is why I'm so excited about "The Grace Alliance" - Waco Texas. Finally we have a professional/educated Christian organization that is advocating for and helping Christians with mental illnesses. They are doing seminars all over the country in churches to educate the body of Christ about the reality of mental illness within the church and have started "Grace Groups" in churches which are support groups for folk with mental illnesses and the families of those with mental illness.
They've been a true God send to our family as we are working with our loved one who is afflicted with bipolar and has been going through a long period of mania. The directors of this much needed organization are Dr. Matt Stanford a neuro psychologist professor at Baylor University and Joe Padilla who has personally been impacted by mental illness in his own family. Hope you guys will take a minute to google them and check them out. Mitzi

Some time has passed since I started this thread. After letting my friend have his space for a while I tried again to talk with him. It went very well and he said he was sorry he didn't mean what he said he just wished there was another way besides taking meds but was willing to accept things as they are. Now we are friends again, all it took was some prayer and a little time for God to heal my friendship. Thank you all for all the prayers and support.:amen:

Happy to hear that things have worked out for you and your friend , sometimes all we need to do is sit back and wait on God . Just keep helping him understand as other things may arise ,educationing him on your bipolar is the best thing you can do .
