  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Shalom,

I would like you input on joining MJ, as I do longer wish to participate in OBOB debate or fellowship. There is too much hurly burly; no joy in Muddville.

I find joy in the L-rd here at MJ.

To stay within CF rules/guidelines, what should I do about the Catholic logo? Should I fly the MJ flag? My entire profession of faith can easily be found in the Sh'ma (in my signature) and is represented by my avatar.

Like King Soloman, I am a syncretist. Faith is highly personal. I do not believe it fully expressed by dutiful conformity to rules. Nor IMHO does G-d. That is why we all are called to holiness.

Thank you,
Toney

ole Toney my friend... welcome.

;)

I suppose that is a sticky situation. Considering your statement:
My entire profession of faith can easily be found in the Sh'ma (in my signature) and is represented by my avatar.
I realy see no problems or conflicts what so ever. The Sh'ma is the essential foundational block of MJ'ism.

I know your heart, in that you desire to grow...as we all do here. Some are content with parroting what they hear from the pulpit, others, such as yourself, are driven to more... to seek what's behind the curtain.

I am currently not a moderator, so I can't make the decision. However, I would welcome you with open arms.

Shalom,
yafet

FYI, there are many others here who have not 'renewed' their icon, so to speak. People such as Plan9 have joined us in discussing the Nature of G-d from a more Judaic perspective as well, without donning the messianic icon. I see no problem with your presence here.

My goodness, Toney, IMO... PLEASE DO!

I wouldn't have a clue about whether you would want to/need to/have to/should change your icon. It seems to me that anyone wanting to camp out with we, the MJ's, can sure do so with any believer's icon, though not debate (okay do I have all that right?)... but whether you change your icon, or don't, or whatever, I just wanted to say I enjoy your posts, and I love your gentle, humble spirit. I am glad you want to spend more time with us, and I say, "Great!"

What Yafet said is probably your best option at this point. Keep your current icon, but feel free to join in on the discussions. :)

If you'd like to discuss the issue further, feel free to pm a mod. It would probably be better to hash this all out in private. ;)

I do appreciate Toney's public statement. It allows us to stand behind him in certain ways that he would otherwise lose out on. However, for a specific answer, Justin is right... a private conversation with a moderator might be your best option.

Might I suggest Justin? :D

You are right, my friend. After PMs with Justin and Erin, we have determined that this is the best approach as nothing in MJ beliefs contradicts my beliefs. The Jewish religion and well-thought Christians have always respected that certain matters of faith and spirituality are personal matters between the created and the Creator.

I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

Shalom,
Toney

Welcome to the wonderful world of conviction brother.
Where G-d takes a good man and stirs his heart with his
finger to make him a better man - A man after his own heart!

The Bible is filled with stories of men who sought after the G-d of
Y'sreal when their own preconcieved notions and religions failed them.
You walk in good footsteps.

Shalom - Peace!

Much Love

Congratulations, Toney! There is a lot of joy in the L-rd to be found here, isn't there? :)
Now that you have that scroll icon to go with your classy avatar, you're going to be the best-dressed man around.

You think I should have made a way cool thread like yours instead of just ptiching my tent here and refusing to leave? ;)

Heh...I would say you're no longer a syncretist. ;)

That is an interesting thought and your point is well taken.

However, the finest example of syncretism on today’s spiritual landscape is the lily Messianic Judaism.

My Catholic friends profess astonishment at what I have done/am doing. Are you a Jew, they ask? MJs are the newest denomination of Protestantism, they tell me.

‘No,’ I reply. I am not a Jew, nor am I a Protestant. I am a Christian. In fact, I align myself with the oldest form of Christianity, not the newest. I am a Gentile believer who is grafted back to the Tree, and my faith is Pauline. Paul, Saul, was a Messianic Jew. So was Simon Bar Yonah. I find good company.

I like it here. There are no schisms! I can stand shoulder to shoulder with those who love HaShem and Yisrael. I am forever syncretistic. There are about 14-million Jews including about 30,000 Messianics who were also born Jews. They comprise the Remnant of Israel and in these difficult days, I wish to be as close to them as possible.

My sincere thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts expressed on this thread.
