I think it really isn't as easy even to classify one as WoF an another as not (not as easy as it was 15-20 years ago). The term "Faith" is becoming a fad label and so just because someone is a teacher of "Faith" doesn't necessarily make them traditional WoF.

This is so, so true. :D

I truly appreciate the abundance of answers and answerers. It seems I have received much misinformation.

May I ask does WOF teach that it is a failure in faith to seek medical help from a physician or at an emergency room?

Again I truly appreciate all of you who have taken your time to answer my questions.

I don't believe it is a failure in faith, I believe it is indicative of where you are at, if you need a physican by all means go, God blesses the physician too, the important thing is that you get healed...

I, personally, practice my faith, I never take medication for small things like a headache, my personal belief is... if I can't believe God for a headache I will never have my faith exercised enough to believe for something bigger...

Mike.

I wholeheartedly agree. Great answer.

-----

Now, I'll say something that is at odds with what I just agreed to. :)

I have stood on faith and have been healed of ruptured discs, and I've been healed of migraine headaches I used to get. Believed with my wife in a healing for breast cancer, and my father-in-law from a stroke. But I still take asprin for a headache. Almost as if I find it easier to believe for the "big" stuff over the "small." Is that odd?

This is a good question. For the most part, in practice, I would say no. That is, most WOF believe God, and use medicine/doctors. That is what I do, and pretty much every WOF person I know does the same.

HOWEVER, and I add this in the interest of being as honest and transparent as I can; there has been some flirting with that concept in WOF circles, and oftentimes, when listening to someone preaching on healing, that impression can be conveyed, though mabey not intentionally. Often, it really comes down to what the person who is listening expects to hear. If you are expecting to hear that, you can probably find confirmation for it, but if you listen closely, you will see that such an interpretation is not what is being heard by the followers, nor the intent of the speakers. People within WOF that have gone over into that ditch in the past have divorced themselves from what most of us would consider true WOF. At that point they become, for lack of a better term, heterodox WOF.

You have to understand that WOF is not monolithic. That is, we are not a denomination with a central authority, that can speak for us all. Much like charimatics, we are a movement that crosses denominational lines, rather than an organization. By definition, this means that we do not all believe the same.

I have found it disturbing when I have heard people preach on healing and they leave one with this impression. However, to be fair, movements tend to be more radical at their inception, and I think this was more common in the early years. Preachers are becoming more aware of this misunderstanding, and are taking pains to address it. I know that I do, often. We are maturing as a movement, and certainly at this point in time, I think most of us would consider someone that said that seeing a doctor is lack of faith have stepped outside of 'orthodox' (if there is such a thing) WOF.

Peace...

I think another point to add to dkb's is the difficulty in preaching 100% scriptural healing to an unbelieving world.

What I mean is - when someone is teaching that God wants to heal us from everything... the natural state of man is to go the path of least resistance (like electricity). In an effort to build up the faith of those being taught - it is difficult for the teacher to make a provision for each individual circumstance. Since most people there are already inclined to go to the doctor when sick (and NOT trust the Lord first) - it can be a challenge to encourage them to stand in faith as their primary response without seemingly becoming anti-doctor.

(If that makes any sense...)

would it be alright if I asked as well? I have several questions regarding WoF that I can't seem to find the answers online anywhere.
Absolutely. Feel free to start a new thread if the topic is different.

So, I started having an asthma attack the other night...and this quote popped into my head. I gave it a try, and just commanded the asthma to leave, and "called those things that be not as though they were"...and wouldn't you know it the attack left as quickly as it would have if I had used my inhaler
What a concept! Thanks!!

It is an easy concept to grasp isnt it ? Even a child can do it. What is really sad is that there are those out there who have been pew sitting for tens of years and still don't realise what Jesus has already done for them.
