  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So, fellow heretics, after the rapture on May 21st, 2011, what're you gonna do with all that free real-estate?

:p
I call dibs on TBN... they have prime real estate in OC! :p

Study the proofs that God has so graciously given in His Word showing us that these dates are 100% accurate and beyond dispute.

I would bet that every single "prophet" of doom that ever attempted to support their apocalyptic claim using the Bible as source material (or whatever book they used) probably said exactly the same thing. :)

Like all such prophetic dates of doom in the past that have come and gone, I'm sure that date will be just as uneventful. :)

Kinda like scientists shouting: Y2K, killer bees, overpopulation, depletion of resources, radon gas, nuclear fallout, asbestos, Mercury, San Andreas fault, and everything else but Thalidomide -- isn't it?

If scientists would have had their way, we would have been gone a long time ago; but praise be to God, He is still the One in control.

Kinda like scientists shouting: Y2K,
No. The Y2K problem was real. One of my brothers and one of my sons worked on it. Without the work of many people there would have been some significant issues.
killer bees,
If you ever encounter some you may change your mind.
overpopulation, depletion of resources,
Food shortages due to over population were staved off by the Green Revolution, a product of modern science.
Green Revolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

radon gas,
People have died from Radon gas exposure
nuclear fallout,
People have died from cancer due to fallout from nuclear tests. If we ever had a widespread nuclear war do you doubt that many millions or perhaps billions would die?
asbestos, Mercury,
People have died from exposure to asbestos and mercury no one ever said they would end all life.
San Andreas fault,
It wasn't the end of the world but it sure made a mess of San Franciso in 1906 and is likely to cause problems again someday.
and everything else but Thalidomide -- isn't it?
There was a reason Thalidomide was never used in the US. An MD who was also trained in the science of pharmacology refused FDA approval.
If scientists would have had their way, we would have been gone a long time ago; but praise be to God, He is still the One in control.
None of the things you mention were predicted to end the world and some them are still looming as potential problems.

Really?

So scientists don't preach "the end of the world, unless we...", anymore?

If not, what are these?

And what's this?

They never did.

Possibilities, not predictions. I could say, "Barack Obama could be assassinated", but that doesn't mean I'm saying it definitely will happen. Do you see the difference?

And what's this?

It appears to be a large clock.

Oh, I see.

So based on 'possibilities', the Green Revolution occurred?

Global warming is just a 'possibility'?

Kinda like scientists shouting: Y2K,
The funny thing is that by late 1999 most scientists recognized that the problem was well under control but I do remember a lot of religous fundamentalists on boards I was on at that time predicting that the world would end either on Y2K or soon after the start of the new millenium.

No the Green Revolution Prevented the possible widespread famines that some predicted from occuring. However, if population growth is not controlled at some point it is bound to outstrip food production.
Global warming is just a 'possibility'?
The data show pretty clearly that global warming is happening. It won't end the world except for those people who live on low lying islands that will eventually be submerged.

No, no, no, no ,no!

The possibility was that famine was going to cause mass starvation. The Green Revolution has deferred any Malthusian catastrophe.

But even you can't deny that predictions of widespread food shortages were accurate, at least for large parts of the world.

Global warming is just a 'possibility'?

Global warming is happening. The likelihood is that it is anthropogenic in nature. The possibility is that in the future it will cause severe problems for the population of earth. It will not lead to "the end of the world", and no scientist has ever predicted it will.

Nope:
Scientists said Y2K would be nothing - and it was.
Killer bees are real.
Overpopulation is a complex topic; Tokyo is densely populated, Kenya is not.
Resources are varied; some important resources (e.g., oil) are depleting, some are not.
Radon gas, nuclear fallout, asbestos, and Mercury, are very real dangers, being carcinogenic and otherwise deadly to humans and/or the environment.
The San Andreas fault is a real fault line; not sure what you're getting at.
Thalidomide... well, I'm not getting into that again.

Point is, you're equating 'scientists' with the general public and the mass media - what the media likes to squawk about is rarely indication of the scientific consensus.

If scientists would have had their way, we would have been gone a long time ago; but praise be to God, He is still the One in control.
Quite.

Really?

Those are end-of-the-world scenarios. Highly improbable (which is why scientists don't run around like headless chickens about them), yet the mechanics of such events are known to be apocalyptic.

I mean, how less scientific can you get: Number sevens starts off with the fantastic line of "New predictions for the end of the world just keep on cropping up. It’s called a Negative Energy Cloud and there is absolutely no physical evidence for its existence". Really, AV, if you're going to bemoan the scientific consensus for being a doomsday cult, at least cite the scientific consensus...

And what's this?

A novelty clock.
A little more than that.
The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, maintained since 1947 by the board of directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world is estimated to be to global disaster. As of January 14, 2010 (2010 -01-14), the Doomsday Clock now stands at six minutes to midnight. Since its creation, the time on the clock has changed 19 times.

SOURCE
The clock was created by scientists but the time changes have to do with politics as you are well aware. Do you remember the Cuban missile crisis? Do you know that world war III was nearly started by false alarm in the Soviet Missle Warning system in 1983? Do you think a massive nuclear exchange between the Soviet Union and the West would have ended the world as we know it or not?

Have scientists been predicting definite dates for the end of times for nearly 2,000 years? No. Have religious fundamentalists been predicting definite dates for the end of the world for nearly 2000 years. Yes.
