  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We are the salt & the light of the world

Mat 5:13 You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? For it has strength for nothing any more but to be thrown out and to be trampled under by men.
Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city situated on a mountain cannot be hidden.

I know that the light is the light of Jesus within us that shines to the world.

But what does it mean that we are the salt??

Hi GlendaJoanne and greatnut ,

I have also wondered about the salt and to me as I have searched found it ,''salt '' to mean ''humility'' Being a meek and humble servant to all
the world is run by a power of vanity and pride

a true Christian is like the nature of Our Lord Jesus Christ as we learn of HIM true righteousness ,

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
here is scripture examples for a humble heart and good service to the Lord ..

Mar 9:50 Salt [is] good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

seeing the salt and peace similie in this one and this next one is grace in your speech with one another ..

Col 4:6 Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Blue Letter Bible = salt David was shown the covenant of salt ... in healing the waters same as compared to voices to me as a spiritual truth ..in searching we will find waters as a speech or voice ..and with salt water it can mean healing and help aid for anyone partaking of them the dead sea is salt water , to me its a baptism [dead to the world ] and Alive to God ...
they speak of 2 baptisms in the WORD OF GOD , the water and blood of Jesus Christ .. THE repentance by water
and the Holy Ghost and fire [blood [Life] of Christ ]

2Ki 2:21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].

2Ch 13:5 Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, [even] to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

for David the'' beloved ''of God ...
2Sa 7:14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took [it] from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

seeing the Mercy of God forever

I hope this may help God bless your searching for His Truth

I do think that the "grace" that salt represents is the grace which God gives us in all areas of our faith. Thus, a Christian has "something" that nobody else has, but which adds so much to all (as salt does to a meal). It has to do with the Holy Spirit. To lose one's savor would be to quench the Spirit, and to become like the rest of the world - bland without God.

Salt is enduring and eternal - again, like the Holy Spirit in us, which should be reflected in our conversations which should be filled with grace.

Hi greatnut ,
sorta like grapenuts huh ? lol just kiddin'

I agree ,christians having something that the rest of the world lacks [likened to having salt with a meal ]

thats a good analogy a ''spirit of grace ''
the world being ''poor in spirit'' the Lord said'' the poor you willl have with you always , but not Him always

thanks for the taking it deeper in thought greatnut !:)
God bless you and yours in Christ Chicka

Thank you, greatnut & Chicka..

God gave me these verses a few days ago..

They were in a book that I've had for a long time that "I" just felt I needed to read then..

Then I was listening to a CD.. and the song kept repeating "We are the salt & the light.."

Just now as I was coming into this thread, I opened my E-Sword & the "random" verse that popped up was

Mat 5:13 You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? For it has strength for nothing any more but to be thrown out and to be trampled under by men.

Do you know that there are NO coincidences with God? *smile* Ask me sometime about Matthew 16:24..

It is a parable or "parallel". Just as a little salt enhances the rest of the meal, so a few Christians make a big difference in the world (which, by and large, is unconverted).

That is so true.. even a 'few' of us can make such a great difference.. just as when salt is added into the soup, no part of that soup is untouched.. the seasoning disperses throughout..

Just the same, our salt can reach a long way into an unbelieving world.. we can touch souls and bring them the "savory" message of the Gospel.. of God's Blessings & Promises.. so that a "lost" world can be saved.. preserved.. like meat can be perserved with salt..

Humility.. yes.. The Message.. seasoned with 'salt'.. makes it easier to digest..

I work at a place where most of the employees are not Christian.. One day a fellow came upstairs swearing because one of the orders had come in wrong..

He took Jesus' name in vain.. and I said AMEN! He said huh?? I say that was a prayer, wasn't it?? Who better to call on in times of trouble! He has never sworn in front of me again..

I believe that a 'softer'.. humble approach goes a lot further than a confrontational - How dare you...

The salt will aiding the spread God's message.. will savor & flavor.. making it easier for us to approach the unsaved.. so that they can see the light of Jesus within us.. :)
