Does Jesus mean his statment literly in this verse? If so, does he mean faith in God or faith that you can do it. I'mnot so sure. The verse follows:"Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountian, 'Move from here to there'and it will move. Nothing will be imposible for you."

There's an old story about a woman who lived in a shack where her view of a beautiful valley was blocked by a mountain. She went to church one Sunday and heard the preacher say that faith can move mountains. So that night, before bed, she prayed "Lord, remove this mountain."

The next morning when she got up and ran to the window and saw that the mountain was still right there, blocking her view of the valley. She said, "Uh huh. Just like I figured."

Literal or not, Jesus' words are a pretty good indication of how little faith any of us has. Read ahead a couple of chapters to Matt. 19:25-26.

Grace and peace from God and His Christ unto all!

Faith is a gift from God; it comes from God and is never generated or spun in man.

Man is able to receive the gift only when the gift is imparted (as a gift of the Spirit or as fruit of the Spirit) unto the man.

Jesus Christ says that if a man has (received) faith as small as a mustard see, such a man can say to this mountain "Move from here to there and it will move".

Every good thing of faith comes as a promise. Only a token of the Spirit that comes with faith is allowed to manifest for purposes of adding the recepient in the Body of Christ and for all men to profit.

We obtain faith upon faith upon faith for various things to initiate and later manifest. Each faith must have a corresponding promise of a thing from the riches of the grace of God.

If the promise of faith is for a mountain to move, the mountain will move eventually as faith grows and the promise is delivered. If there is no promise in the gift of faith for a mountain to move, the mountain will never move... unless by the illusion of magic.

If the promise of healing is in the gift of faith we receive, healing will come as certain dynamics ensure unto the delivery of healing. If there is no promise of healing is the certain gift of faith received, healing will not happen according to that faith received.

Therefore, we are instructed to go to the throne of grace to find grace (the promise of a good thing) in times of need. Promises of healing, mercy and such other things of God are of the riches of the grace of God.

I don't know that Jesus was speaking of a literal mountain in this verse or not. Put in the context of the previous verses, I don't think He was. Read back a few,
starting at verse 14 and you'll see that He was addressing the disciples unbelief, which He clearly stated in verse 20. The disciples could not cast the demon from a man's son, but Jesus did (v.18). When the disciples asked Jesus about it, He told them that is was "Because of your unbelief".

In my heart, this "mountain" that He speaks of is any obstacle that keeps us from doing the will of God. Whether it be some doubt, unbelief, or other sin, it doesn't really matter if it keeps us from God's will. Only through faith can we approach God and allow Him to remove the mountains that hinder us.
