  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

binding and loosing are terms of power which jesus gave to us as believers. there are conditions such as purity, holiness with using power but we have power over demons serpents sickness and disease and much more. if only the church knew what is available

I'll agree with MD on this one - in the Judaic context this is not the case.

Acts 15 is a great example of beleivers excersizing "binding" and "loosing".

Thanks for the links, I'll look over them. :) I really like it when a piece fits in with the historical data of the times, among the other aspects of hermeneutics. The historical is often the hardest part of the interpretive info to come by. You can find the Greek in several sources and the context is there for the reading. But the historical can be found in only a few places.
Thanks
Dave

Ain't that the truth. Hope this helps a little bit.

Btw, I don't espouse everything that is written in the articles. I simply wanted to show you what the terms originally meant.

remember that verses carry multiple meanings that is why god can show you something new in a well known verse. has something to do with where we are at in our walk. there are many deeper truths which is why paul said ye have need of meat but i can only feed you with milk

yes, there are, indeed, different manners of interpretation. However, without the proper context, the easiest level of interpretation (face-value) is difficult. And thus, you tend down a road of eisegesis, where all that is done is "reading into" the passage what you want to get out of it.

In this case, if Y'shua meant that he was giving the authority of Torah interpretation to the Apostles (through a Judaic and rabbinic context); then how can you truly justify your position?

Excellent

That reminds me of the Hebrew tradition of how they look at the Scriptures - for a Jew the Text is like a jem that as you turn it in the light it looks different and creates different colors - the sign of your Scriptural prowess as a rabbi was how many "levels" you could find in a passage, some think there are a minimum of 4 different "levels" to any particular passage.

The four levels of interpretation:

http://members.cox.net/8thday/4levels.html

P [Pshat] - literal, simple - BREADTH
R [Remez] - parable, allegory - LENGTH
D [Derasha] - seek, search - DEPTH
S [Sod] - inner, mystical - HEIGHT
