  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just found out that I have to take a college math placement test tomorrow. I'm TERRIBLE at math, and I'm going to need a miracle to pass. What better way to get one than through prayer? :)
I just want to do well enough to place into a college-level class. I'm farther behind than I'd like to be credit-wise, and if I don't place into a college-level class, I'll have to take tons of review classes that won't count towards graduation. I don't want to be in school forever!

College Math placement... BLEH!!! I hate those things... I had to take some lame class below college level to catch up when I did mine, but I know how I could have avoided it. If you have even a day you can study and learn what you need to. Study your fractions, and yer decibles, and some geometry about how to tell the areas of triangles, and what not. You will not get 100% with only that, but that should let you pass. I was pretty close. It only takes a few hours of studying to figure that out, it will save you on days of boreing math classes. You will have to know how to add, subtract, multiply, and devide fractions, and decibles. You will also prolly want to know how to convert the two. I know it sounds bleh right now, but grab a friend and ask them for help and you should be able to absorb enough to let you pass. I wish I did this the first time!!! Also difficult is algebra equations... those are harder to absorb. Ah man I don't mean to be overwhelming, lord knows you might know all this already anyhow ;) On my math score, all I needed was 4 more correct answers to not get into lame math, so just a little bit can help.

I will pray too, God should have mercy enough to spare anyone from math 090!

Fieldmouse, I will pray for things to work out. But you know, math more than any other subject is cut-and-dry. Praying for a miracle to get you over the hurdle doesn't alter the fact, you might need these math skills to help you do assignments. So study your notes. If can ask an instructor for help, don't hesitate to do so - even if it makes you look dumb. That's honestly good advice! Most of us aren't born with good math skills.

Keep practicing. If you have sample questions, do them!

I didn't have to take the test!!!! Because of my SAT scores, and previous lower-level math experience, I don't have to do the placement thing, and I'll only have to take ONE review class before I can do college level stuff!!!! YAY!!!!

Congratulations, fieldmouse! I haven't done an SAT. I don't believe it's necessary here in Canada. I didn't like math much when I was growing up. But I think it's really cool these days. Math - especially basic algebra and introductory statistics - might come in really handy in the future. As you get older, the financial aspect of math called the time-value of money becomes important. You'll see what I mean after you enroll in an investment plan, take out a personal loan, mortgage or buy bonds.
